Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire reported that representatives from Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign are making efforts to better understand crypto-related policies as the 2024 United States elections approach. In an interview with CNBC on August 14, Allaire said that based on the legislation on crypto assets passed in the current session of Congress, the crypto space seems like a bipartisan issue.

Jeremy Allaire believes that the crypto issue closely concerns both Democrats and Republicans. The Circle CEO mentioned that on August 8, he participated in a video call with White House officials, Harris campaign representatives, and U.S. lawmakers, where industry leaders had the opportunity to clarify their positions on crypto assets:
“There is a joint effort from both the administration and the Harris campaign to truly understand the issues, players, industry, and policy matters. I think what the industry is very clearly seeking is clear statements. Potentially clear statements from the current White House and clear statements from Harris as part of her economic policy agenda.”
Circle CEO also added:
“Two years ago, it would have been very hard to believe that crypto would be a political issue for the presidency.”
US Elections and the Crypto Space
Since announcing her campaign on July 21 after U.S. President Joe Biden declared he would not seek re-election, Harris has not announced a comprehensive economic policy platform that could impact the crypto sector. Reports suggest that her team members are discussing crypto policy with industry executives and considering whether to take a public stance on the issue.
In contrast to Vice President Harris, Republican candidate Donald Trump directly addressed crypto users at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in July and helped make crypto assets part of his party’s official platform. Allaire mentioned that it is unclear whether Trump plans to fulfill his campaign promises regarding crypto, but he is surrounded by knowledgeable individuals.
As of August 14, the market prediction platform Polymarket showed Harris leading Trump by eight points nationwide in many key battleground states. The two presidential candidates are scheduled to participate in a televised debate on September 10.
