Nordic-based organization Bitcoin Beyond 66 has launched an open-source artificial intelligence platform focused on correcting misconceptions about bitcoin’s environmental impact. The new tool, called “The Bitcoin Evidence Base,” aims to swiftly provide up-to-date, evidence-based responses to widespread claims on social media that “bitcoin harms the environment.”
AI-driven data repository
The Bitcoin Evidence Base allows users to upload criticisms—either as text or links—directly into the system. The AI then analyzes these critiques using scientific articles and recent reports, generating evidence-based answers in a direct, balanced, or softer tone, depending on preference.
Representatives from Bitcoin Beyond 66 emphasized the rapid spread of misinformation on social media and noted that few people have time to read current research. The platform’s main goal, they stated, is to help users provide credible, concise answers on controversial topics at a moment’s notice.
“Most people simply don’t have time to read over 22 peer-reviewed articles, Cambridge reports, and the ERCOT datasets. When someone shares a criticism on social media, it’s crucial to generate a quick and reliable response.”
Bitcoin mining and its environmental impact
For years, bitcoin mining has faced strong criticism from the United Nations and several governments over its supposed negative environmental effects. However, advocates now highlight a major shift in the industry’s energy use. Figures like Daniel Batten argue that the adoption of low-carbon and renewable energy sources in bitcoin mining has risen significantly in recent years.
A review by Cointelegraph notes that The Bitcoin Evidence Base frequently references an April 2025 study by Cambridge University, which found that the share of renewable energy in bitcoin mining had reached 52 percent. The study also pointed out that bitcoin now uses a higher proportion of renewables in its energy mix than the banking sector and that over 22 scientific publications have documented bitcoin’s positive environmental contributions.
Fact-driven and empathetic communication strategy
The Bitcoin Beyond 66 platform is guided by a communication handbook prepared by Daniel Batten. This approach encourages responding to critics not only with evidence but also with empathy. Tactically, replies aim to acknowledge any underlying truths within criticisms before correcting misconceptions with scientific data.
Users can choose between direct, balanced, or softly worded responses when confronting criticism. Additionally, anyone can submit scientific articles or relevant links to help expand the platform’s database even further.
The Nordic bitcoin community highlights the importance of an educational and constructive approach to fighting misinformation, preferring outreach over confrontation.
