Major ETF inflows surge

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led all spot Bitcoin ETFs, taking in $381.4 million. ARK 21Shares’ ARKB followed closely, recording $289.1 million in net inflows. Fidelity’s FBTC captured $238.8 million.

Bitwise’s BITB added $21.6 million, while MSBT brought in $61.7 million. Grayscale’s GBTC and BTC funds registered smaller inflows of $3.3 million and $3.1 million respectively. Notably, none of the listed US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced net outflows during the session.

ETFNet Inflows
IBIT (BlackRock)$381.4 million
ARKB (ARK 21Shares)$289.1 million
FBTC (Fidelity)$238.8 million
MSBT$61.7 million
BITB (Bitwise)$21.6 million
GBTC (Grayscale)$3.3 million
BTC (Grayscale)$3.1 million

Institutional demand rebounds

The $999 million total comes after a notable turnaround in institutional participation. On September 18, Bitcoin ETFs attracted $433 million in inflows, on top of $159.5 million added the previous day. Over the last three trading sessions, spot Bitcoin ETFs have absorbed approximately $1.59 billion.

This resurgence follows elevated withdrawals earlier in the month. On September 15, net outflows reached $450.4 million, while September 16 saw another $295.9 million leave Bitcoin ETFs.

Bitcoin price rallies alongside ETF surge

The rise in ETF inflows coincided with a strong move in Bitcoin’s spot price. BTC started the 24-hour period trading around $81,000 to $82,000 and climbed rapidly. The price passed $83,000 and eventually approached $87,000 at its session high.

Later in the session, Bitcoin pared some of those gains to around $85,200 at press time, remaining up roughly 5% from the day’s opening level.

IBIT, FBTC, and ARKB collectively accounted for over $909 million, representing around 91% of total ETF inflows for the session.

Analysts stated that the strong inflows and rising Bitcoin price indicate renewed institutional demand after a period of selling pressure earlier in the month.

Market outlook

The next trading sessions are poised to test the durability of this renewed interest. Sustained ETF inflows could signal that institutional buying is more than just a one-day rebound. On the other hand, another shift to outflows might reveal lingering caution among investors navigating Bitcoin’s recent volatility.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin price movements without directly holding the cryptocurrency. These products are generally seen as a bridge for traditional institutions and individuals seeking regulated access to Bitcoin markets.

Mini dictionary: Spot Bitcoin ETF – An exchange-traded fund that directly tracks the current price of Bitcoin and holds the underlying cryptocurrency, allowing investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin price changes via regulated financial products.
