Bitcoin has continued its upward momentum, with market participants highlighting FOMO (fear of missing out) levels that have not been observed since December 2024. Recent price action is being driven by a combination of strong inflows into Bitcoin ETFs, increased corporate accumulation, and active participation in derivatives markets.

Social sentiment and market activity reach new highs

Data from Santiment indicates that the current enthusiasm surrounding Bitcoin rivals the exuberance seen at the end of 2024. At that time, Bitcoin prices were moving toward the milestone of $100,000 before climbing as high as $126,000 by October 2025. The renewed social excitement points to a broadened base of investor attention on Bitcoin price movements.

According to recent Santiment figures, trading volume for Bitcoin has grown by approximately 39% over the recent period, underlining heightened market activity and engagement. Additionally, open interest in Bitcoin derivatives has climbed 9.38% in just 24 hours, reaching $61.33 billion.

Analysts remark that strong FOMO can stimulate greater market participation in the short term, but also carries the risk of rapid reversals if expectations shift.

As investors position themselves for the next move, the rise in open interest reflects an influx of capital into Bitcoin derivatives. This trend suggests that market participants are increasingly leveraging the prevailing trend, which could either support further gains or amplify volatility.

Corporate purchases and ETF flows fuel demand

Bitcoin is currently trading at $85,590, representing a 5.33% increase over the past 24 hours. The market capitalization stands near $1.72 trillion, with a 24-hour trading volume of $170.91 billion.

One significant driver behind the price movement has been the accumulation of Bitcoin by large institutional entities. Strategy has recently purchased 950 BTC for approximately $75.7 million, with an average acquisition price of $79,670 per Bitcoin. Their total Bitcoin holdings now approach 846,000 BTC, reinforcing Strategy’s position as one of the largest corporate owners of Bitcoin.

Additionally, Strategy initiated a buyback of nearly $174 million in STRC preferred shares, signaling ongoing confidence in its Bitcoin-focused strategy. The robust demand from corporations is complemented by continued positive inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Derivatives markets and investor strategies evolve

Crypto analyst Crypto Patel has highlighted significant changes within Bitcoin’s derivatives landscape. The share of options within crypto-native derivatives has increased sharply, now representing nearly 50% of the market compared to 25% previously. Options trading, often characterized by higher leverage and distinct risk profiles, is regarded as a major factor shaping near-term price volatility.

Observers note that as options gain prominence, funding rates and open interest will play a more critical role in determining market direction and volatility, requiring investors to closely monitor these metrics.

In this context, monitoring not only technical indicators such as key resistance levels but also shifts in investor activity and token preferences is increasingly important. In the meme token segment, viral trends can translate into substantial monetary flows within days. Fomo App data highlights an example where a $99 trade in “Niu Lai” turned into roughly $370,000, demonstrating the potential for significant returns. The platform provides tools for tracking emerging tokens, investor activity, and real-time trade notifications, offering market participants deeper insight into the evolving landscape.

The next phase for Bitcoin will depend on the staying power of current demand drivers, including ETF inflows, large corporate acquisitions, open interest trends, and evolving investor sentiment. Sustained institutional and ETF activity would bolster support for Bitcoin, while a downturn in open interest or declining FOMO could signal increased price vulnerability.

With Bitcoin’s breakout above $85,000 attracting widespread attention, incoming trading sessions will determine whether the current surge represents the onset of a new growth phase or the start of heightened volatility following rapid gains.
