Strategy has increased its bitcoin reserves to a record 847,666 BTC after purchasing 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million between September 21 and September 27. The average cost per bitcoin in this recent transaction reached $85,681, including fees, marking a significant premium compared to the company’s overall average bitcoin purchase price.
Bitcoin Accumulation and Funding Details
This latest acquisition lifts Strategy’s bitcoin holdings above the 847,363 BTC it reported on June 21. The company had previously sold a combined 6,916 BTC between June 29 and August 9, as disclosed in filings dated July 6, August 3, and August 10. Proceeds from those sales were allocated to fund preferred dividends, bolster the dividend reserve, and repurchase STRC preferred stock.
Strategy’s accumulated bitcoin stack now carries a total cost of $63.95 billion, averaging $75,437 per coin. The most recent purchase price was approximately 14% higher than this average.
In a related move, last week’s bitcoin acquisition was financed by the sale of 1,469,165 MSTR Class A shares through the company’s at-the-market program, generating $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of this amount, $142.7 million went toward bitcoin purchases, while $103.5 million was used to repurchase STRC preferred stock.
Recent Trading and Market Strategy
Strategy had not sold any MSTR since the week of August 24 to August 30, when it raised $602.8 million, allocating $369.7 million for the purchase of 4,603 BTC—its first bitcoin acquisition since June. There were no purchases in the two weeks following that transaction, but the period from September 14 to September 20 saw the addition of 950 BTC for $75.7 million from Strategy’s USD Cash account.
The company also repurchased 1,534,530 STRC shares for $151.7 million during the most recent week, with the average repurchase price at $98.86 per share. This compares with $98.24 the previous week and $97.36 for the week ended September 7.
Management has maintained its position to recommend the STRC dividend rate remain at 12% annually until STRC demonstrates consistent trading near $100 per share.
Liquidity and Dividend Developments
For ongoing buybacks, Strategy drew $48.1 million from its USD Cash account, leaving a balance of $1.00 billion at the end of the week. When the account was established in late August, it contained $1.59 billion. The company has $723.5 million remaining from a repurchase authorization that was doubled to $2 billion earlier this month.
On Friday, Strategy asked shareholders to approve daily dividends on STRC and three other preferred stocks at a special meeting scheduled for October 28.
Management has stated that the board plans to keep STRC’s dividend at 12% a year until the stock trades consistently near the $100 mark, reflecting a careful alignment of payout strategy with market performance.
