XRP is currently trading close to $1.50, reflecting a drop of about 49% compared to the same period last year. This decline comes even as the XRP Ledger (XRPL) achieves new usage milestones that appear disconnected from the price movement of the XRP token.
XRPL network processes $1 trillion in transfers
Ripple, the blockchain company behind XRPL, reported that the ledger has processed more than $1 trillion in cumulative value between counterparties and handled billions of individual transactions to date. This milestone spotlights the network’s extensive usage over its lifespan, although the figure represents total value transferred, not capital currently held on the platform.
Ripple also noted increased interest from regulated financial institutions in experimenting with tokenized assets on XRPL. At the same time, the network’s stablecoin liquidity continues to grow, and new credit products are under development, highlighting its expansion beyond payment solutions.
Ripple reports that regulated institutions are exploring tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger, while stablecoin liquidity and credit products are expanding across the network.
Expansion into financial asset records and stablecoins
Recent initiatives demonstrate the growing versatility of XRPL. In Brazil, CSD BR, a financial-market infrastructure provider, has begun using XRPL to mirror ownership records for financial assets, starting with shares in the BTG Pactual investment fund. CSD BR manages over BRL 22 trillion in registered assets through its existing systems, which continue to serve as the official source of record.
Mini dictionary: CSD BR is a Brazilian central securities depository that provides infrastructure for financial market operations, including registration and settlement of assets, ensuring transparency and security in the country’s financial markets.
Meanwhile, stablecoins are gaining momentum within XRPL. The total value of stablecoins issued on the ledger recently approached $1.3 billion, with Ripple USD (RLUSD) representing the vast majority of this amount.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Lifetime value transferred on XRPL | $1 trillion |
| Stablecoin supply on XRPL | $1.3 billion |
| XRP price (current) | $1.50 |
| XRP price change (1 year) | -49% |
Credit products and implications for XRP demand
Clearpool, a decentralized lending protocol, is preparing to launch institutional credit products on XRPL. The company stated it has already issued over $965 million in loans across existing platforms and intends to introduce RLUSD-based lending solutions on the ledger.
However, higher activity on XRPL does not directly lead to increased demand for the XRP token itself. Tokenized funds can be transacted on XRPL without participants needing to acquire large XRP holdings. Dollar-based transactions can clear in RLUSD, while XRP’s primary use is for network fees and as a source of liquidity.
The gap between XRPL’s growing network activity and weak XRP price reflects the reality that widespread adoption alone does not automatically drive token demand or appreciation.
This divergence suggests that broader adoption on XRPL must eventually translate into greater liquidity, increased transaction usage, or improved investor outlook if it is to have a meaningful impact on the valuation of XRP.
