Bitcoin surged to $86,000 this week, propelling the broader crypto market capitalization back above $3 trillion for the first time in several months. This move has coincided with a sharp recovery in altcoin prices, fueled by revived investor enthusiasm and momentum shifting across digital assets.
Altcoin season confirmed by Glassnode signal
Onchain analytics platform Glassnode reported that its Altcoin Cycle Signal reached 81.25 out of a maximum 100, signaling the strongest bias towards altcoin outperformance in months. This proprietary metric, tracking the market capitalization of the 250 largest cryptocurrencies relative to Bitcoin, is designed to indicate when altcoins are gaining traction at a faster pace than Bitcoin itself.
The signal is regarded by many traders as an early indicator of ‘altseason,’ a period when speculative interest and capital flows drive rapid gains in alternative cryptocurrencies, often outpacing Bitcoin. The current reading suggests a broad shift in sentiment favoring altcoins, with the market reacting accordingly.
“The first rally in August saw altcoins stay relatively flat while BTC moved. However, today’s rally has ignited the full breadth of the altcoin market,” Glassnode stated in a post on X, emphasizing a newly inclusive trend across the digital asset landscape.
As a result, the combined altcoin market capitalization climbed to $1.19 trillion on Tuesday, the highest since late January. This marks a 33% increase in value since August 19, following the US Treasury’s announcement on interventions in bond markets, which acted as a catalyst for renewed optimism and capital inflows into crypto assets.
Bitcoin dominance stable, investor focus shifts
Bitcoin’s dominance, reflecting its share of the total cryptocurrency market cap, has remained narrowly rangebound since the late summer surge. The figure currently stands at 59.7%, nearly unchanged from 59.2% on August 19, underscoring a market landscape where altcoins are closing the gap against Bitcoin’s leadership.
Trader and commentator Matthew Hyland described this phase as a period of “complacency” for Bitcoin investors. He argued that the market had likely seen a macro high for Bitcoin dominance at 66% back in June 2025. Since then, Hyland noted, participants have been reluctant to acknowledge Bitcoin’s weight diminishing relative to altcoins.
Trader Matthew Hyland characterized the situation as one of ‘complacency’ among Bitcoin investors after dominance peaked in June, with little progress since then against the altcoin market’s advance.
As the technical landscape shifts, market observers are closely tracking indicators such as resistance levels and momentum. In meme token markets, the speed and scale of speculative trends are especially pronounced. One example occurred recently with “Niu Lai,” where data from Fomo App showed a trade that turned an initial $99 investment into about $370,000. In this high-velocity environment, not only price, but also the timing of trades and the choice of tokens, play key roles. Fomo App seeks to merge token discovery and trading, offering investors features like social feeds, rankings, and real-time notifications as meme token activity continues to accelerate.
Record ETF inflows and investor sentiment
Crypto exchange-traded funds recorded their highest daily inflows since October 2025, reflecting renewed appetite from both retail and institutional investors. US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $999 million in fresh investment on Monday, while Ether ETFs pulled in $270 million over the same period, according to UK-based investment firm Farside Investors.
The steady pace of inflows signals a broad-based return of risk appetite and a willingness among market participants to diversify across both major and alternative cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, Bitcoin ETF investors collectively hold positions established at an average cost slightly below $86,000, suggesting that BTC/USD is seeking to consolidate this level as key support.
Combined ETF inflows for both Bitcoin and Ether reached their highest marks since October 2025, standing at $999 million and $270 million respectively, according to Farside Investors.
Overall, these trends point to a maturing market environment, where both technical signals and investor flows highlight shifting momentum between established leaders and rapidly rising alternative coins.
