The team behind Atomic Wallet has released a report providing an update on the cyber attack that took place on June 3rd. According to the report, the team has been working incessantly since the first confirmed case, and no new incidents have been reported.
Official Statement from Atomic Wallet Team
In the official statement made by Atomic Wallet team, they claimed that less than 0.1% of their users were affected by the hacking attack. However, they did not give an exact figure on the total amount of cryptocurrency assets that were compromised.
With the increasing popularity of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies worldwide, and the continuous growth of the crypto industry, security vulnerabilities in this field have increased proportionately. The rising number of projects being launched in the crypto ecosystem has drawn the attention of hackers, and as a result, hacking attacks have been on the rise. In this context, another cyber attack occurred in early June. Millions of dollars in cryptocurrency assets were seized as a result of a cyber attack on the Atomic Wallet app on June 3rd.
Following the cyber attack, the Atomic Wallet team released a statement and report addressing the situation after the cyber attack.
What Percentage of Users Affected by Cyber Attack?
In the report released by Atomic Wallet, they provided an update on the work carried out by the teams following the cyber attack on June 3rd:
On Saturday, June 3, 2023, our support team started receiving reports from users claiming unauthorized transactions from their wallets. The entire team went on alert. We warned users about a possible attack through our social media channels. As a precaution, we immediately halted all app downloads and updates, reached out to major exchanges and leading blockchain analysis companies, and initiated an investigation. Since June 3rd, all team members have been working without days off, and we can say that no new cases have been confirmed since the initial reports.
Furthermore, they began an investigation with external teams composed of cyber security experts, although it is very difficult to detect all attacks currently. According to statements in the report, less than 0.1% of Atomic Wallet users were affected by this cyber attack.
In the wake of Atomic Wallet’s report, some Twitter users reacted against the Atomic Wallet team. Some users do not believe the numbers claimed by the team are correct.
