Base Takes a Sector-Specific Step
Ethereum Layer-2 network Base has announced that it has launched an eight-week training course called Base Bootcamp for developers working in the Web2 field. According to the details announced on October 20, there is no fee to join the new program named Base Bootcamp. The course includes intermediate and advanced software engineers and aims to help candidates adapt to the Web3 field.
The Base team emphasized in the announcement that this program is necessary because many software engineers still do not know how to create Web3 applications. According to the team, there are less than 30,000 on-chain creators in the industry compared to approximately 30 million software developers, and only 0.1% of the industry works in Web3.
Base is not taking its first step in this regard. The team, which released an online program called Base Camp at the beginning of the year, decided that this step was not sufficient. According to the team, learning a complex new skill alone leads to many difficulties. The Base Bootcamp course will provide more support for developers who do not want to work alone.
Base Bootcamp will pair each student with a mentor they will meet every week. It will also provide access to a group of Coinbase and Base engineers available to answer questions during working hours.
How Will the Process Proceed?
A dedicated Discord server will be created to enable students to communicate with each other and Base engineers. Mentors will also provide students with necessary advice and additional assignments. At the end of the program, students will be asked to create their own Web3 applications and share their experiences with other students.
Although the program is free, students are required to deposit 1 Ethereum to ensure they complete the program. The team stated that this deposit will be refunded to students after graduation.
The shortage of qualified Web3 developers highlights a major problem in the industry. Some Australian educators have suggested teaching Web3 in high schools to address this issue. Many companies have also created applications to make Web3 development easier. For example, Circle recently introduced a series of applications that allow developers to distribute contracts using Web3 methods.
