Rapid growth and shifting market shares

The arrival of bStocks has significantly altered the competition among tokenized stock issuers. bStocks surpassed Backed’s xStocks, which had been the second-largest player in the sector for nearly a year. As of the latest data, xStocks’ market cap sits at $601.2 million, while Ondo Finance remains the leading issuer with $951.8 million and a 34.4% share of the category.

IssuerMarket CapMarket Share
Ondo Finance$951.8 million34.4%
Binance bStocks$610.6 million22.1%
Backed xStocks$601.2 million21.5%

The sector as a whole has experienced rapid expansion. The market capitalization of tokenized stocks has jumped to approximately $2.8 billion, up from $569.76 million at the beginning of the year. This represents a year-to-date growth rate of about 391%. While xStocks itself grew by 228% during this period, Binance captured most of the new demand, ensuring that the market leader rankings remain in flux.

Despite fierce rivalry, changes in market share have primarily been driven by new buyers entering the sector rather than by Binance drawing users away from competing products. Binance’s internal data similarly indicates that recent growth in bStocks has not come at the expense of xStocks.

Accessible trading and streamlined conversion

Purchasing bStocks is designed to be straightforward for Binance users. Tokenized stocks are available in the exchange’s spot market and can be traded directly against USDT. This seamless integration allows users to buy tokenized stocks like Nvidia in the same way they would purchase popular cryptocurrencies such as SOL. All necessary actions take place within the Binance platform, eliminating complicated onboarding or bridging processes.

Binance also offers an easy conversion option for investors holding the underlying assets. Customers with shares in Nest Trading, Binance’s affiliated broker-dealer, can convert them to bStocks on a 1:1 basis with no fees. The process is fully reversible, allowing for flexible asset management without long-term commitment.

Mini dictionary: Nest Trading, the broker-dealer for Binance, facilitates the direct conversion of traditional stock shares into tokenized versions called bStocks, enabling traditional investors to easily access the digital asset market without additional costs.

Issuer models and trading activity

Ondo Finance, despite being the largest entity by market cap, does not operate its own trading venue. Instead, Ondo mints tokens through other platforms’ interfaces, including Binance. The impact of this model depends largely on the reach and user base of partnering exchanges.

Kraken offers a useful comparison point. The company controls both Backed’s token issuance and operates its own exchange, much like Binance. However, Kraken’s user base and resulting market footprint remain smaller by comparison.

Market cap by issuer reflects only the amount minted, not the volume of active trading. In this model, tokens held passively in wallets carry as much weight as those frequently exchanged.

In the past two years, industry discussions have centered on regulatory compliance, custody arrangements, and settlement processes. However, Binance’s rapid ascent is primarily credited to its existing large user base and the seamless integration of tokenized equity offerings into its platform. Whether higher issuance levels will eventually translate into increased trading activity has yet to be determined, as the available market data does not provide clear answers on this point.
