Binance did not carry out its anticipated Luna Classic (LUNC) token burn for November 1, ending a streak of monthly burns that began in March. This missed burn marks the first time since early 2023 that Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has not executed the planned supply reduction, highlighting Terra Classic’s ongoing dependence on a single centralized platform.

Binance burn delay and community response

Community records confirm that Binance’s last LUNC burn occurred on October 1, removing approximately 335 million tokens from circulation. According to available records, Binance has completed 50 batches of LUNC burns, with the most recent dating back to the start of October.

Despite the missed schedule, Binance has not officially stopped its burn commitments. Under Binance’s LUNC burn policy, the company evaluates trading fees through the fifth day of each month before finalizing token burns. Some contributors to Terra Classic attribute the delay to possible wallet security upgrades, though Binance has not publicly explained the situation.

Many in the LUNC community view Binance’s regular burns as a vital show of long-term support. Terra Classic contributor Dawid Skinder emphasized the importance of this activity, stating it is a major element of the overall burn campaign and gives confidence to investors.

“It is an important sign of support and a vital part of the overall burn campaign,” Dawid Skinder explained, highlighting the emotional significance for the LUNC community.

Limited supply impact of missed burns

In the previous cycle, Binance eliminated 334.88 million LUNC, equivalent to just 0.006% of the total circulating supply, which is estimated at around 5.5 trillion LUNC. At the November 3 price point of $0.000041, the value of tokens was roughly $13,700 and the market capitalization remained close to $227 million.

Monthly burn activity fluctuates significantly. In January 2026, Binance burned 5.296 billion tokens, while in August, the figure dropped to 275.6 million. This variation demonstrates why a single missed burn has only a marginal effect on the token’s overall supply but can influence sentiment among token holders.

MonthTokens Burned
January 20265.296 billion
August 2026275.6 million
October 2026334.88 million

Although the monetary impact remains limited, the burn’s symbolic value is seen as more significant by the community.

On-chain burning and Binance’s role

Binance voluntarily burns up to half of its trading fees collected from LUNC spot and margin markets, making the exchange one of the largest contributors to the token’s deflationary effort. To date, Binance reports burning around 88 billion LUNC.

Alongside Binance’s program, Terra Classic has introduced its own on-chain burn mechanism. In August, the community passed proposal 12223, which increased the on-chain transaction tax to 1.5%; 1.2 percentage points are allocated to token burning, while the rest are distributed between community and oracle pools.

A historical breakdown shows that direct and community initiatives account for 58.86% of all burns, transaction taxes contribute 22.06%, and Binance’s burns represent 19.08% of the total.

These data points suggest that even without Binance, Terra Classic can pursue its burn objectives. However, regular support from the exchange is a crucial factor underpinning community confidence.

Mini dictionary: Terra Classic is the original blockchain protocol behind the collapsed Terra (LUNA) project. After the crash in 2022, the community continued to operate the original chain under the name “Terra Classic,” with its native coin LUNC and independent governance structures. The network relies on transaction taxes and community-led initiatives for key protocol changes.

Security breach and speculation

The delay in burning comes at a time when Binance is dealing with the aftermath of a major security breach. On October 29, the exchange suffered a theft of $6.3 billion, which authorities from the FBI attributed to North Korean hackers. Reuters reported that Binance used company funds to cover approximately 95% of the stolen sum.

Investigations indicate that attackers infiltrated the exchange using a fake job interview and exploited misused artificial intelligence tools.

The close timing of the hack and the missing burn sparked speculation within the LUNC community regarding a connection. Unconfirmed suggestions about wallet security changes persist, but Binance has provided no indication that the events are directly linked.

Ongoing challenges for Terra Classic

Beyond token burning, Terra Classic faces significant challenges in attracting new users and increasing activity on its network. As of November 3, data from DefiLlama showed total value locked at about $817,000 and daily decentralized exchange volumes at roughly $5,000, pointing to limited on-chain participation.

Analysts note that LUNC’s price trends continue to be driven more by community sentiment and Binance’s involvement rather than improvements in network utility or activity. Regular token burns can help maintain investor interest, but they alone are unlikely to reverse the network’s decline.

For Terra Classic’s revival, the network needs increased liquidity and broader adoption. Until these goals are met, dependence on Binance’s ongoing support remains a central concern.

While monthly burns are an important marker of engagement, observers suggest that sustainable recovery for Terra Classic requires deeper network activity and user participation, not just supply reduction measures.
