Binance has restored withdrawals for Zcash (ZEC), Toncoin (TON), and Sui (SUI), following a significant security breach on October 29 that disrupted user access to several networks. The global cryptocurrency exchange announced that clients can now move ZEC on the Zcash network, USDT and GRAM on the TON network, and SUI on the Sui network. Withdrawals for these assets had been on pause following the incident, which impacted a wide range of blockchain rails.

Additional networks gradually go live

The company reactivated withdrawals for Solana and Polygon in earlier phases, allowing users to resume transfers of Solana (SOL) and Polygon (MATIC) shortly after addressing those specific systems. Prior restoration phases also covered leading digital assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, XRP, and Dogecoin, as well as several Ethereum Layer 2 solutions including Base, Optimism, and Arbitrum.

USDT and USDC withdrawals resumed as part of an earlier reopening, expanding access to two of the most widely used stablecoins. Later updates included support for Tron, Avalanche C-Chain, and additional protocols.

Not all assets and networks are fully operational. Binance confirmed that some withdrawals remain suspended pending additional security checks. Deposits have remained available throughout the process, though some users may still encounter delays due to a high withdrawal queue as the platform works to process requests. Binance urged users to follow official channels for ongoing updates regarding restoration timelines.

U.S. authorities connect hack to North Korean group

U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have become involved in investigating the breach. The FBI attributed the theft of over $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance and related platforms to the North Korean hacking group known as TraderTraitor.

Investigators reported observing suspicious movements involving the stolen assets. Agencies including the U.S. Secret Service and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation division collaborated in tracking the flow of funds. Authorities stated that the attackers converted a sizable proportion of the pilfered cryptocurrency into Ether and anticipate continued laundering through decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and instant swap tools.

Additionally, officials called upon operators of THORNode and other infrastructure providers to freeze transactions linked to the stolen funds.

Mini dictionary: TraderTraitor, also known as Lazarus Group, is a state-sponsored group of hackers from North Korea believed to be behind numerous high-profile cryptocurrency thefts. The group often targets crypto exchanges, DeFi protocols, and blockchain infrastructure as part of broader cyber operations.

Binance confirmed it restored ZEC, TON, and SUI withdrawals as security reviews progressed, while U.S. authorities linked over $6 billion in stolen crypto to North Korean group TraderTraitor and indicated that substantial funds had already been swapped into Ether and might be further laundered via DeFi protocols.

Company says recovery nears completion

According to Binance, the company has recovered approximately 95% of the $6.3 billion in losses. The platform said its recovery efforts are supported by company reserves and the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), which is Binance’s emergency insurance fund used during security incidents.

Network operations are still under evaluation, and the exchange stated it will restore additional withdrawals as each network clears necessary security thresholds.

“SAFU, our emergency user protection fund, and company reserves now back the majority of affected balances as more networks come back online,” Binance stated in recent updates.
