Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States posted a slight return to positive flows on October 15, recording $5.1 million in net inflows, according to data from Farside Investors.
Bitcoin ETF inflows recover modestly after heavy outflows
The modest gain follows a period of significant withdrawals from these funds. On October 14, spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $261.4 million in net outflows, while October 12 saw outflows of $65.4 million.
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which is managed by leading asset manager BlackRock, led the most recent session with $16.8 million in inflows. Meanwhile, Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) recorded $7.6 million in withdrawals, and Invesco’s BTCO fund reported a loss of $4.1 million. The remaining spot Bitcoin ETFs reported no net changes for the period.
Industry analysts say the flows point to ongoing caution among institutional investors, who remain selective following recent volatility in the market.
| ETF Fund | Net Flow (Oct. 15) |
|---|---|
| BlackRock IBIT | +$16.8 million |
| Grayscale GBTC | – $7.6 million |
| Invesco BTCO | – $4.1 million |
| Others | $0 |
The recent inflow reversal is relatively modest and highlights that demand from large investors is still far below earlier monthly levels, despite positive trading sessions for Bitcoin.
Selling pressure dominates October ETF flows
October has been a challenging month for US spot Bitcoin ETFs. The largest daily outflow came on October 7, when net withdrawals reached $484.9 million. This was followed by another $244.1 million in outflows the next day.
A brief respite occurred on October 13 as the funds saw $175.7 million in inflows. However, renewed selling in subsequent days quickly eliminated these gains, leaving the latest $5.1 million inflow on October 15 as a tentative sign of stability rather than a strong rebound in institutional participation.
Despite a brief period of buying, strong selling pressure has dominated flows for most of October, suggesting that cautious sentiment continues to shape activity among funds and larger investors.
Bitcoin price climbs back above $82,000
Bitcoin’s price staged a recovery over the past day, rising just over 1% and trading near $82,087. The move comes after the cryptocurrency dipped below the key $80,000 level during the previous session, reaching as low as $79,700 before buyers emerged.
This latest rally occurred amid investor concerns linked to stronger-than-expected US inflation data, which has fueled speculation about additional interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs, designed to provide regulated investment access to Bitcoin, have become a primary channel for institutional demand in recent months. However, the recent small net inflows suggest institutions remain hesitant to fully commit despite the ongoing price recovery.
