Market sentiment resilient amid retreat

Despite the downturn, risk appetite among investors remained robust. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index climbed to 70, up from 66, reflecting ongoing optimism and keeping sentiment firmly in the “Greed” area.

This positive sentiment may provide a foundation for future breakouts, although global economic and geopolitical uncertainties continue to pose risks to near-term stability.

Analysts stated that focus remains on whether the pullback represents a healthy correction or signals more severe market pressure ahead. Continued confidence could support resilience, but volatility remains a concern among traders.

The market’s ability to absorb abrupt moves without a significant reversal suggests investors have re-evaluated Bitcoin’s value in the current environment.

Bitcoin consolidation reflects shifting valuations

Over the past two weeks, Bitcoin has largely traded sideways within a narrow band, consistently defending support around $77,000. Rather than threatening a downside break, the cryptocurrency is currently testing the upper end of its consolidation range.

Several risk factors, including escalating tensions in the Middle East, have contributed to more cautious market dynamics. Iran-backed Houthi groups have intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the Red Sea, driving up crude oil prices and prompting some investors to reduce exposure to risk-sensitive assets.

Should the conflict deepen or energy costs continue to rise, cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin could face further selling pressure as inflation concerns mount.

Mini dictionary: Houthi forces, an Iran-aligned political and armed movement originating from Yemen, have been involved in conflicts throughout the Middle East and are considered a key regional disruptor, particularly in relation to energy and shipping security.

Macroeconomic events set the stage for volatility

Attention now turns to key US economic events with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report scheduled for Friday and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision expected on Wednesday. Bitcoin has shown heightened sensitivity to shifting expectations around US monetary policy decisions.

After initially benefiting from dovish signals by the Fed, strong jobs data reversed earlier gains, leaving Bitcoin little changed for the week. Research firm K33 Research emphasized that the upcoming Producer Price Index (PPI), CPI release, and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting represent major volatility triggers for both Bitcoin and broader crypto assets.

Additionally, the September 15 Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act—an emerging digital asset regulatory framework in the US—may have sector-wide effects.

If inflation readings justify lower interest rates, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies could see renewed upside. Conversely, stronger data would likely reinforce expectations for restrictive monetary policy, increasing risks of further declines.

Technical outlook: Key supports and indicators

Bitcoin remained below $78,000 on Thursday but continued to hold above its main exponential moving averages (EMAs), supporting a generally bullish trend. Momentum indicators, however, signaled that the market is consolidating rather than preparing for an immediate breakout.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) retreated from overbought conditions to about 58, implying that while buying pressure has cooled, it remains modestly positive. In contrast, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator deepened its negative reading, reflecting waning upside momentum and possible further range-bound activity.

Bitcoin trades just under the $78,094 support, with the $77,000 region acting as a short-term floor. The 200-day EMA at roughly $72,923 and the 50-day EMA near $72,764 are closely aligned, forming a key demand zone should prices decline further.

Next, the 100-day EMA at around $70,727 represents a major support level. A decisive move below this threshold could indicate more significant shifts in Bitcoin’s underlying trend.

For a renewed bullish outlook, the MACD would need to stabilize while the RSI trends upward, which could point to strengthening momentum and another possible advance for Bitcoin.
