Bitcoin climbed back over $81,000 on Friday, showing a 6% gain in the past 24 hours as traders focused on a breakout from its recent consolidation and a key close above the 50-week moving average. At one point, BTC changed hands near $81,500, approaching a significant resistance zone found between $82,000 and $83,000.

Bull flag pattern points toward $95,000

Market observers analyzing the daily chart have pointed out that Bitcoin saw a robust rally in August from levels near $63,000, followed by a stretch of tight, downward-sloping consolidation in the $76,000 to $81,000 range. Technical analyst Super฿ro described this pattern as a classic bull flag, a continuation setup that may signal further upside if the price holds above the upper boundary after its breakout.

Super฿ro noted that Bitcoin’s move back through the top of its consolidation zone and above $81,000 increases the probability of further gains. The analyst explained that a close above the weekly 50-period moving average could clear the way toward the $90,000s, identifying $95,000 as a conservative bull flag target, with $102,000 as a more ambitious, logarithmic target.

Both targets rely on sustained momentum, and neither would be validated solely by the initial breakout. The analyst emphasized that Bitcoin would need to remain above the former resistance and post higher closes in subsequent sessions to confirm a lasting advance.

A close above the 50-week moving average may open a path toward $95,000, but price must stay above prior resistance and keep registering new highs to confirm the next leg up.

The lower end of the recent consolidation sits near $76,000. A dip below this area could challenge the bull flag interpretation, signaling that the breakout may be short-lived and putting buyers on the defensive.

For now, bulls are aiming to sustain the breakout above the $80,000–$81,000 range and surpass the resistance awaiting just overhead.

Key resistance at $82,000–$83,000 as moving averages hold

Looking at the weekly chart, Bitcoin now finds itself testing a major resistance area in the $82,000–$83,000 zone. The cryptocurrency has reclaimed its 50-week moving average, which is currently around $80,366, but faces renewed selling interest at price levels that previously stopped a springtime rebound.

Heisenberg, an independent trader and analyst, viewed the break above the 50-week moving average as a constructive sign. He identified the resistance band in the low-$82,000s as the immediate challenge after a sharp rally that began near $62,000–$64,000.

Should Bitcoin achieve a firm move above the $82,000–$83,000 area, it would overcome a technical ceiling that capped gains during the market’s earlier advance in April and May. Such a breakout would reinforce the short-term bullish outlook and bring both the $90,000 and $95,000 targets into play.

Resistance/SupportPrice LevelSignificance
Upper resistance$82,000–$83,000Breakout confirmation needed
50-week moving average$80,366Supports ongoing rally
Consolidation bottom$76,000Loss could signal failed breakout

However, the moving average around $80,366 remains a critical line. If Bitcoin fails to hold above this mark, doubts about the strength of the current recovery could grow.

Heisenberg also called attention to the approaching golden cross, a technical signal where a short-term moving average crosses above a long-term moving average and is often seen as a bullish indicator. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin is nearing this signal, but past instances have not always led to clear gains.

Bitcoin’s immediate test is now defined. A convincing rally above $82,000–$83,000 would boost odds of reaching higher targets like $90,000 and $95,000. However, if the price fails to stay above $80,000, the recent upward momentum may fade, leaving the market open to deeper corrections.

Mini dictionary: Golden cross, a technical analysis concept that occurs when a short-term moving average (usually the 50-day) crosses above a long-term moving average (usually the 200-day), indicating a potential upward trend in asset prices.
