Chainlink, the decentralized oracle network, has developed a solution for Swift’s 2026 Business Challenge that automates cash dividends for tokenized equities spanning four separate blockchains. The system covers every step, from the initial corporate action notification to payment distribution and final reconciliation, all achieved without requiring manual processes.
Integration With Swift’s Payment Standards
Chainlink’s announcement explained that the new system runs using the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) while maintaining compatibility with Swift’s established ISO 20022 messaging standard. This integration allows traditional financial infrastructure to interact directly with blockchain-based assets with better efficiency and security.
By building a bridge between existing finance protocols and distributed ledger technology, the project aims to make tokenized stocks function more like conventional securities, rather than merely serving as blockchain replicas of shares.
Mini dictionary: Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) is a framework designed by Chainlink to facilitate secure off-chain computation, allowing for advanced automation and verification on blockchain networks.
Automating Dividends for Multi-Chain Tokenized Shares
Managing corporate actions for tokenized equities becomes increasingly complex when the same share exists on multiple blockchains. Paying agents must identify the rightful holder of a stock at the record date, ensure shares transferred across chains are not counted more than once, calculate each investor’s dividend, and transfer payments to the correct digital wallet.
Chainlink’s new system aggregates ownership records from all supported blockchains into one comprehensive and verified record. Its Automated Compliance Engine can independently validate identities, confirm sanctions and tax requirements, and check investor eligibility before processing payouts.
On the announced payment date, investors receive distributions in either stablecoins or tokenized deposits on the respective blockchain holding their wallet. Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) enables cross-chain transfers of settlement assets if the wallet operates on another network.
| Step | Chainlink System Action |
|---|---|
| Record date | Identify ownership across multiple chains |
| Eligibility checks | Automated compliance (identity, tax, sanctions) |
| Payment | Send distributions in stablecoin or tokenized deposit, enable cross-chain settlement with CCIP |
| Reconciliation | Final record-keeping and audit without manual intervention |
Chainlink explained that the system can process every task required by a paying agent for a corporate action, including verifying ownership and preventing double-counting, and distribute payments in a seamless and automated fashion.
Versatility Beyond Dividend Payments
Chainlink stated that the same architecture could also facilitate other complex corporate actions such as interest payments, redemptions, rights issues, stock splits, and proxy record dates. Settlement methods could include stablecoins, tokenized deposits, or central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
This broader functionality expands the role of Chainlink’s partnership with Swift in the field of institutional tokenization. Previously, Chainlink worked on systems for tokenized investment funds, and earlier pilots with Swift validated new models for linking conventional financial messaging with multiple blockchain networks.
“Our solution demonstrates that dividend payments and similar corporate actions for tokenized assets can be automated end-to-end, even across several blockchain networks,” Chainlink stated.
