The Bitwise report for Q1 2025 highlights notable surges in certain categories within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. While the report indicates that the first quarter was “historically positive,” it also notes that it was a “disappointing” period. These assessments draw attention to significant progress in specific areas despite low expectations across the sector.

RWA and Stablecoins

The report emphasizes the increased use of stablecoins and the growth in the volume of Bitcoin $59,907 futures. The total assets under management for stablecoins rose by 13.50% quarter-on-quarter, reaching over $218 billion—the highest level to date. Additionally, there was an impressive 30.14% increase in transaction volume.

Furthermore, the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) experienced a remarkable parabolic rise during Q1. This surge is attributed to a growing interest in private loans and U.S. Treasury bonds.

Matt Hougan states, “Despite price declines, I observe sudden surges in some areas of the crypto market. For instance, the increase in stablecoin assets and transaction volume, the quarter-on-quarter growth in tokenized real assets, and the activity in regulated Bitcoin futures indicate rising institutional interest.”

Increased Interest from Institutional Investors

The record increase in trading volume and open positions in regulated Bitcoin futures suggests a growing interest in cryptocurrencies among institutional investors. The report mentions that these developments could pave the way for upward movement in the market.

Additionally, the report points out that signals from central banks regarding easing monetary policy have led to an expansion in M2 money supply. Historically, this has had a positive effect on risky assets, and cryptocurrencies could benefit from this trend.

According to Bitwise data, the momentum surrounding RWA, which has accelerated in recent years, is expected to gain further traction by 2025. It notes competition among firms like Ondo Finance in tokenizing U.S. Treasury bonds alongside companies such as BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and WisdomTree. These developments may indicate the emergence of new opportunities in the cryptocurrency market.

The Bitwise report predicts that these emerging trends could positively influence the market and allow the relevant sectors to take leading positions. Analyses suggest that the potential brought about by stablecoins and tokenized real assets could significantly impact the overall state of the market.
