According to the municipality, transactions will be conducted through a secure platform provided by PayPal. The service is expected to launch in mid-2025. Detroit officials stated that this initiative aligns with the city’s strategy to explore innovative technologies.
In addition to the new payment system, Detroit invites blockchain entrepreneurs to propose unique public solutions for the city. Submissions are due to Justin Onwenu, Detroit’s Director of Economic Opportunities, by December 15, 2024.
