Ethereum is approaching a key resistance level at $2,550 as traders closely monitor whether its recent recovery will translate into a sustained breakout. The growing momentum comes amid higher participation in derivatives and notable on-chain activity from the Ethereum Foundation, as well as a significant reduction in network fees across the platform.

Technical outlook and trader expectations

Market analysis reveals that the $2,550 price area is an important threshold for Ethereum, with traders assessing if the cryptocurrency can maintain its upward movement. Analyst Ted indicated that a confirmed weekly close above this resistance could potentially push ETH towards the $3,000 mark, signaling a shift in the prevailing market dynamics and sentiment.

Until Ethereum decisively surpasses this level, the asset remains vulnerable to further selling pressure and correction. Trader behavior suggests that confirmation on a weekly candlestick is more likely to build confidence among investors than brief intraday spikes above the resistance zone.

For many traders, a convincing weekly close above $2,550 could open the door to $3,000 and signal a new phase of market structure for Ethereum.

Derivatives market activity intensifies

Coinglass data shows Ethereum derivatives trading volumes have surged by 68.76% to $66.99 billion, while open interest rose 10.02% to $34.24 billion. This spike in activity highlights increasing speculative positioning as traders prepare for larger price fluctuations near the resistance level.

Growing derivatives volumes and elevated open interest suggest anticipation of higher price volatility, with traders leveraging positions to capitalize on any decisive moves. However, this rapid growth in derivatives activity does not clarify whether the dominant sentiment is bullish or bearish.

Ethereum Foundation wallet movements and on-chain assets

Recent blockchain data reveals that the Ethereum Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports the development and growth of the Ethereum network, moved approximately $2.45 million worth of ETH to an unlabeled Gnosis Safe. However, there is no confirmation that this destination wallet is under the Foundation’s direct control or that the transferred assets are being sold.

Arkham Intelligence reports that the Ethereum Foundation still holds roughly $235.46 million in ETH and $23 million in USDC on-chain, suggesting it retains significant resources despite these movements.

Mini dictionary: Gnosis Safe, a widely-used smart contract wallet for decentralized organizations, enables enhanced treasury management and secure multi-signature approvals for asset transfers.

The absence of clarity around the ultimate owner of the recipient address means the motivation and effect of this transfer remain uncertain for now.

Declining network fees and ecosystem impact

Transaction fees on Ethereum have fallen sharply in recent weeks. Data from Santiment Intelligence indicates that the average transaction fee decreased from $0.72 on April 21 to $0.095, reaching the lowest levels recorded this year.

Santiment attributes this drop to both lower mainnet demand and upgrades improving the handling of network activity. Notably, increased blob throughput, a 60 million gas limit, and the expanding use of Layer 2 solutions have eased competition for Ethereum’s mainnet blockspace.

These changes are making transactions cheaper and may lower costs for activities ranging from basic transfers to swaps, DeFi strategies, and stablecoin movements. However, reduced fees do not guarantee higher usage or demand on the network.

Lower transaction fees enhance Ethereum’s accessibility, but increased activity will depend on broader user engagement and the continued evolution of the platform’s technical capabilities.

Ethereum remains at a crossroads between technical resistance and fundamental shifts, with the $2,550 level marking the next major test for the platform. A successful weekly breakout could shift attention to the $3,000 barrier, while a failure to surpass resistance may keep the price neutral or lead to renewed corrections.
