Another major departure has struck the Ethereum Foundation. Co-Executive Director Hsiao Wei Wang announced her immediate resignation via a post on X, stating that after recently taking time off, she has reassessed her priorities and future plans.
Leadership turnover accelerates
Wang explained that her decision came after a period away from her duties, believing now is the right time for her to step back from the Foundation’s leadership.
Reflecting on her break, Wang concluded that it was the right moment to step aside and redirect her focus for the future.
This move follows the previously announced departure of Tomasz Stanczak, the Foundation’s other Co-Executive Director. Earlier this year, Stanczak confirmed he would leave following his involvement in the Switzerland-based nonprofit’s leadership transition. The Ethereum Foundation remains a central organization advancing the Ethereum ecosystem.
During Wang’s absence, board member Bastian Aue stepped up to oversee the leadership transition. With both co-executive directors now gone, Aue is reportedly taking on a more expansive role in guiding the Foundation’s direction.
Eight senior exits in five months
Wang’s resignation marks the latest in a string of upper management departures plaguing the Ethereum Foundation in recent months. At least eight senior leaders have left the organization in the past five months, highlighting a trend of significant leadership changes. These developments have intensified scrutiny of the Foundation’s priorities, management structure, and strategic direction within the community.
These discussions come at a time when competition among blockchain networks is heating up, with the Ethereum network facing increasing pressure from rival ecosystems. The heightened attention on the Foundation extends beyond personnel shifts, touching on broader aspects of leadership and governance.
Wang stresses Ethereum’s broader mission
In her statement, Wang commented not only on her personal decision but also underlined the bigger mission of Ethereum. She highlighted the contributions of the individuals shaping the network and emphasized that Ethereum transcends any single role, institution, or era.
Wang noted that Ethereum was never about a single position, organization, or moment; instead, it is the collective effort of many contributors driving its evolution.
Other content and market headlines included in the source material were excluded as they do not directly relate to the latest departure. What stands out is the accelerating pace of leadership changes within the Ethereum Foundation over a short period.
