Grayscale has reported that Ethereum currently dominates the stablecoin and tokenized asset landscape, with nearly $140 billion in stablecoins issued on its network, accounting for about half of the total market. The digital asset manager described Ethereum as a central infrastructure layer for decentralized finance, noting its broad adoption by developers and institutions.
Stablecoins and Tokenization Power Ethereum’s Lead
According to Grayscale, Ethereum’s position as a leading smart contract platform is underscored by the sheer volume of stablecoins circulating on its blockchain. These stablecoins, which are typically pegged to currencies such as the US dollar, enable users to transact and store value with minimal price volatility relative to traditional cryptocurrencies.
Alongside its dominance in stablecoins, Ethereum hosts around 40% of all tokenized assets—more than double the share of its nearest competitor. Institutional issuers like BlackRock, WisdomTree, and Invesco have increasingly launched tokenized financial products on Ethereum, reinforcing its role in shaping the industry’s future.
The network now supports more than 2,000 decentralized applications (dApps) directly, in addition to roughly 6,000 apps built on its Layer 2 scaling solutions. Layer 2 networks operate in tandem with Ethereum’s mainnet, enabling higher throughput and improved user experiences for both developers and end-users.
Mini dictionary: Layer 2 networks are blockchain protocols operating atop a primary network (Layer 1, such as Ethereum) to increase scalability by processing transactions off the base layer and periodically anchoring their results to it. This helps reduce costs and congestion while retaining the security and decentralization of the underlying blockchain.
Beyond application activity, Grayscale highlighted that Ethereum’s developer community is larger than any rival platform. US-based exchange-traded products holding ETH exposure now exceed $13 billion in assets, while CME-listed futures contracts on ETH represent over $3 billion in open interest.
| Metric | Ethereum | Second-Largest Competitor |
|---|---|---|
| Stablecoins on network | $140 billion | Significantly less |
| Share of tokenized assets | 40% | Approx. 20% |
| Applications (mainnet + Layer 2) | 8,000+ | Fewer |
Price Tests and Technical Levels in Focus
Despite Ethereum’s widespread adoption metrics, traders continue to monitor key support levels as the asset faces near-term price pressure. Technical analyst More Crypto Online pointed to $2,206 as the upper margin of a crucial support zone for ETH, warning that a drop below this level could lead to further declines toward the $2,069-$1,832 range, with additional support at $1,724.
$ETH is back at $2,206, the top of the orange support zone. If $2,206 breaks, targets shift to $2,069–$1,832, with main support down to $1,724.
At the latest CoinGecko reading, Ethereum was priced at $2,238, edging 0.45% higher in the preceding 24 hours but recording a slight 0.08% loss over the past week.
Grayscale emphasized that surging stablecoin and tokenized asset volumes underscore Ethereum’s foundational role in the sector, but market price trends remain uncertain in the short term. The sustainability of its advantage, Grayscale noted, will depend on whether developers and institutions continue to rely on Ethereum’s infrastructure for new financial products and payment innovations.
Grayscale stated that stablecoins and tokenization could further cement blockchain infrastructure at the heart of global payments, savings, and investing.
