Japanese stablecoin issuer JPYC announced on Wednesday that it completed an extension of its Series B funding round, increasing the total raised to approximately 6 billion yen, or $38 million. The company reported that AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, a leading Japanese logistics group, participated as a new investor in the round.

Expansion of Web3 and financial ecosystem

JPYC stated that it plans to use the capital from the funding extension to advance its financial and Web3 ecosystem. The company emphasized efforts to promote broader adoption of its yen-pegged stablecoin, aiming to improve digital payment infrastructure within Japan.

While JPYC did not reveal the precise amount secured in the latest tranche or the size of AZ-COM’s investment, the cumulative total increased by about 1 billion yen from the figure disclosed in May, when the Series B round stood at about 5 billion yen. Details surrounding the financial and strategic aspects of the capital and business alliance remain undisclosed.

JPYC highlighted its intention to accelerate the uptake of its stablecoin and expand the digital finance environment through both the funding and the new partnership.

AZ-COM partnership and stablecoin applications

Prior to this announcement, Nikkei reported on July 20 that AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings was considering an investment exceeding 1 billion yen in JPYC, and was exploring the use of JPYC’s stablecoin to pay approximately 2,300 of its delivery partners and contractors.

JPYC indicated that integrating its yen-backed stablecoin with AZ-COM’s logistics network could facilitate onchain finance by combining business operations, logistics, and payment systems through blockchain technology.

AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings is a major Japanese logistics provider offering transportation, warehousing, and supply chain services. Its potential adoption of a stablecoin for contractor payments would mark a significant development in corporate blockchain use cases in Japan.

By linking onchain finance to the logistics sector, this alliance aims to enhance settlement efficiency and support the digitization of commercial activities.

Funding details and future developments

JPYC did not provide specific details on the most recent funding extension or comment on the financial terms of the business alliance. The company has yet to respond to requests for further information regarding the scope and planned applications of its partnership with AZ-COM.

Industry observers view the development as a positive indicator for the integration of stablecoins in traditional sectors such as logistics and supply chain management in Japan.

This funding round reflects growing interest among large enterprises in leveraging digital assets for operational payments, settlement, and efficiency gains.
