Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign team received a letter from a group of leaders in Web3 and decentralized finance (DeFi). The group requested a meeting to discuss measures that would support innovation in blockchain and cryptocurrency markets in the United States.
Meeting Request from Web3 and DeFi Leaders
The letter, sent on Tuesday, was signed by over 20 members of the crypto industry, including Cleve Mesidor from the National Policy Network WOC Blockchain and Olayinka Odeniran from the Black Women Blockchain Council. The signatories emphasized the importance of policies that support all developers.
The group called for Kamala Harris to participate in a discussion regarding the regulatory environment that would enable innovation in Web3 and DeFi. They also requested the establishment of rules that promote investor protection, financial access, and capital accumulation.
Importance of Inclusive Financial Access
Crypto advocates who signed the letter pointed out that current policies make it difficult for vulnerable groups to access cryptocurrencies. Despite communities of color, such as Black, Latino, Asian American, and Indigenous people, being early adopters of crypto, they remain excluded from the traditional financial system.
Moreover, they expressed a desire for their ideas to be taken into account in the policy-making process.
“We want a seat at the policy table and a voice in regulatory discussions,”
The group stressed the critical need for the United States to maintain its leadership in Web3 and create policies that support all developers.
It remains uncertain how Kamala Harris will respond to these requests, as well as when or if the meeting will take place. However, receiving such calls may compel her to adopt a clearer stance on cryptocurrency issues.
In conclusion, the letter highlights the search for regulatory support for the development of cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies. It is positive that the crypto community is vocal about its goals for creating a more inclusive and accessible financial ecosystem.
