A monumental breakthrough for cryptocurrency market participants in Mexico as Total Play, the country’s top-tier internet service provider, integrates payments via the Bitcoin (BTC) Lightning Network (LN). This development comes just a few days after Microstrategy founder Michael Saylor revealed plans to leverage Bitcoin LN in the corporate world. The US technology company, being the largest corporate Bitcoin investor, had announced its intention to offer a product package containing a Bitcoin wallet and an LN wallet address to corporate account holders.
Users in Mexico Can Now Pay Their Internet Bills with BTC
One of Mexico’s best internet providers, Total Play, announced its integration of Bitcoin LN-based payments. The internet service provider activated a simplistic-looking payment screen that asked users to choose between a chain Bitcoin payment and a payment over BTC LN.
Considering that mainstream Bitcoin usage could further educate people on the use of cryptocurrencies for payments, this is a significant development by a country neighboring the US. According to DB-IP, Total Play Telecommunications ranks 8th in the list of top 20 organizations with the largest IP allocations in Mexico.
This latest news from Mexico points to another step towards full corporate adoption for Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency. As a Layer 2 solution built directly on the Bitcoin Blockchain, Bitcoin LN uses micro payment channels to carry out transactions more efficiently, faster, and with lower fees than the Bitcoin network.
Binance Makes a Move with Bitcoin Lightning Network
The LN solution is often used as a temporary measure, particularly when the heavily used Bitcoin network is unable to process transactions.
Recently, Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, announced plans to offer withdrawal transactions with Bitcoin LN as an exit strategy when chain BTC withdrawal operations are suspended.
