Fast, affordable cross-border payments fuel Nium’s growth

By integrating Ripple Payments technology into its systems, Nium has addressed long-standing liquidity issues and cut transfer waiting times for cross-border transactions. Traditionally, such payments require funds to be pre-deposited in the receiving country, but with Ripple, this requirement has been greatly reduced.

Prajit Nanu, Nium’s CEO, highlighted the dual benefits for both businesses and individual users. He stated that the new system on the Philippines-Mexico payment route alleviates the need for pre-funded accounts, enabling swifter, lower-cost transfers.

“By using Ripple between the Philippines and Mexico, Nium has reduced liquidity needs and enabled faster, more affordable money transfers,” explained Prajit Nanu, reflecting on how this partnership has transformed service efficiency.

Since joining RippleNet, Nium has seen transactions move closer to real-time processing; transfers that once took days can now be completed almost instantly. This operational improvement has rapidly led to easier, more reliable transactions with far fewer delays or complications for users.

According to the company, within just five months of adopting Ripple’s infrastructure, Nium’s network experienced a sharp increase in transaction volume.

RippleNet’s global connections extend Nium’s reach

The benefits for Nium have gone beyond speed and lower costs. Connecting to RippleNet has enabled the company to establish an expansive network of new financial institutions and payment providers, creating fresh transfer corridors between North and South America and Southeast Asia.

This expansion has strengthened Nium’s presence in markets like Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia, and opened doors for growth in emerging regions as well.

Blockchain adoption accelerates in banking and fintech

As blockchain-based payment solutions become more common in finance, firms like Travelex Bank now use Ripple for near-instant transfers and reduced transaction fees, while Intesa Sanpaolo is piloting Ripple for digital asset custody solutions.

These advances show blockchain evolving from pilot programs to regular use in real-world payment streams. Both financial institutions and technology companies are increasingly turning to blockchain to combat the slow pace and high costs of traditional transactions by embedding it within their core operations.

Nium’s partnership with Ripple is seen as more than just a technological update; it marks a strategic move to reduce friction in international money flows and make fast, simple, and accessible transfers available on a global scale.
