Web3 game Notcoin announced a collaboration with the NFT collection Lost Dogs and the The Open Network (TON)-based NFT marketplace Getgems to launch a story-focused Web3 game. Notcoin, a viral clicker game that reached over 30 million users in less than two months, is transitioning to a more sustainable ecosystem.
Notcoin Team Takes Notable Step
Notcoin will release a game where users can play as characters using their Lost Dogs NFTs, complete various tasks, and make choices to evolve. In the announcement, Notcoin acknowledged that the tap-to-earn model could not sustain long-term engagement and growth.
Despite attracting a large player base, the project decided to end its mining phase at its peak on April 1. Mad Tail, the Chief Business Officer (CBO) of the Lost Dogs collection, spoke about the importance of story-focused games:
“Because everything in our lives is a form of narrative. Life itself is a narrative concept. Therefore, we aimed to achieve this synchronicity in our game, both above and below.”
The team also believes that despite the global trend towards excitement-triggering mechanics, people still seek good narratives. Nonetheless, players will be able to earn Notcoin (NOT) tokens and a new in-game token in the new story-focused game.
What’s Happening in the NFT Space?
Although NFTs have experienced some of the lowest monthly sales volumes in the past two months, many still believe in them as a technology. Video game pioneer Atari recently used NFTs as an access card for an on-chain arcade, allowing players to compete on a global leaderboard and have their high scores recorded on the blockchain.
Meanwhile, Mad Tail argued that NFTs are a technology that exists regardless of whether people believe in them or not. When asked why they included NFTs in their games with Notcoin, the executive said it could enhance the user experience. Mad Tail explained:
“We see NFTs as a tool that can enrich the gaming experience by increasing the sense of ownership within the game. Therefore, we chose to include NFTs in our gaming space.”
The executive also stated that this new effort is an experiment where they explore, combine, and reinterpret different concepts.
