Ripple has announced a new strategic partnership with Privy, a technology provider owned by Stripe, aiming to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence-powered payments and embedded wallet solutions into the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
AI payments take off on XRPL
By joining forces, Ripple and Privy plan to make it easier for developers to build payment applications on XRPL using assets such as XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD). The collaboration focuses on removing the need for users to handle the complexities of private key management, paving the way for streamlined payment app experiences.
Ripple highlighted that the project will advance the field of agentic commerce, where AI agents can independently own digital assets, initiate transactions, and pay for services or goods without ongoing human oversight.
Developers can use Privy’s programmable wallet infrastructure to create and manage user wallets on XRPL, embed crypto payments directly into apps, and enable users to approve transactions — all while minimizing user exposure to complex wallet operations.
Privy’s wallet solution allows application developers to incorporate embedded wallets on XRPL, helping users to approve crypto transactions securely and conveniently within their apps.
This approach is expected to simplify machine-to-machine and software-driven commerce, creating new opportunities for automated digital payments.
x402 protocol to simplify automation
A key part of the integration is x402, an open payment protocol designed to streamline automated transactions between software agents. With x402, AI agents can autonomously pay for digital resources such as cloud computing, API services, or AI model queries, without requiring manual transaction confirmations from users.
For example, an autonomous agent could purchase data or API access using XRP or RLUSD, execute the payment, and instantly obtain the desired service. This positions XRPL as a critical backbone for machine-driven economic activity.

Transaction volume surges
Ripple’s engineering lead, J. Ayo Akinyele, reported that AI-driven transactions have surged on the XRP Ledger. Automated transactions jumped from about 1 million in July to around 13 million in October, now representing approximately a quarter of all activity on the network.
While these transactions account for significant network activity, most payments involve relatively small crypto amounts, typical of machine-to-machine transactions.
| Period | AI Transactions on XRPL | Share of Network Activity |
|---|---|---|
| July | 1 million | – |
| October | 13 million | 25% |
Expanding features and future plans
Ripple introduced an AI Starter Kit earlier in June, providing developers with tools to build autonomous payment applications utilizing XRP, RLUSD, and the x402 protocol. This initiative aims to support those creating projects at the intersection of crypto payments and artificial intelligence.
Privy intends to bring additional advanced features to the XRPL integration, including new transaction policy controls and fee sponsorship mechanisms, designed to improve user and developer experiences as the collaboration continues.
With this new partnership, Ripple aims to make it easier for developers to implement automated payments, broadening XRPL’s reach beyond traditional crypto transactions and fostering innovation in AI-powered commerce across the network.
