Shiba Inu (SHIB), among the most prominent meme-based cryptocurrencies, is now officially available on Solana through the asset gateway Sunrise. This integration gives Solana market participants direct access to SHIB’s canonical form, the Ethereum-based ERC-20 token, within Solana’s broad decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.
Sunrise and asset migration
Sunrise, powered by Wormhole Labs, is an asset gateway designed to seamlessly bring tokens from external blockchains—such as Ethereum—to Solana. By handling the creation and recognition of canonical tokens on Solana, provisioning liquidity, and integrating with wallets, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and trading aggregators, Sunrise aims to address persistent issues around fragmented liquidity and token duplication.
Solana has emphasized the importance of SHIB’s community, describing it as one of the largest in the crypto sector. The blockchain highlighted how Shiba Inu has evolved from its origins as a dog-themed meme coin into a more substantial project with a rapidly growing ecosystem.
It is important to clarify that SHIB’s launch on Solana does not impact the original Shiba Inu token on Ethereum, nor does it mean the project’s layer-2 network, Shibarium, is migrating to Solana. Instead, Sunrise enables the canonical representation of SHIB to be traded within the Solana ecosystem, broadening access while maintaining the token’s Ethereum roots.

Without a clear canonical version of assets on new blockchains, communities risk having multiple unofficial or unverified versions of the same token circulating, which often results in split liquidity and confusion among users.
