US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) registered a net inflow of $101.1 million on September 2, signaling renewed investor interest following a sharp outflow just a day earlier. Bitcoin’s price also rebounded, rising above $77,700 after briefly dipping into the mid-$76,000 range.

ETFs reverse outflows as demand returns

The recent inflows marked a notable turnaround from September 1, when spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US recorded $236.5 million in combined net outflows. Although Wednesday’s inflow did not fully offset the prior day’s losses, it suggested that institutional appetite remained relatively steady after the selloff that started the month.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which ranks among the largest of the US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, led Tuesday’s gains by attracting $115.4 million in net inflows. Bitwise’s BITB and the MSBT product contributed additional inflows of $4.2 million and $7.3 million, respectively.

Grayscale, a major digital asset manager, saw its lower-fee Bitcoin fund draw $30.4 million in new investments. This positive movement was partially countered by a $56.2 million net outflow from Grayscale’s flagship GBTC fund. Other tracked ETFs reported neutral flows for the session, with no significant changes in assets under management.

Bitcoin price seesaws amid ETF shifts

Bitcoin traded at approximately $77,759 early Thursday, showing a 0.25% gain over the previous 24 hours. Despite a seemingly modest daily increase, BTC faced significant volatility, sliding toward $76,000 before rebounding back above $77,000 during the trading session. The cryptocurrency peaked around $77,900 before settling near $77,759.

The intraday bounce coincided with the renewed ETF inflows, lending support to the idea of institutional buyers stepping in after the dip. Price action during the period reflected ongoing skittishness, but the inflows provided a signal of persistent demand at current levels.

ETF flows shifted sharply, with funds attracting $216.7 million in net inflows on August 31, then experiencing $236.5 million in outflows on September 1 before returning to positive territory with $101.1 million in net inflows just one day later.

Future outlook for BTC and spot ETF demand

Heading into September, ETF flows have demonstrated heightened volatility, alternately shifting between strong inflows and substantial outflows. The near-term price direction for Bitcoin will likely hinge on whether institutional investors continue accumulating through ETFs or resume profit-taking at elevated levels.

BTC’s next significant test lies in its ability to stay above the $78,000 threshold. Sustained inflows into spot ETFs could support a further advance, while renewed selling may increase the risk of a revisit to last week’s lows.
