Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has declared that the competition to accelerate zero-knowledge (ZK) technology is over, urging developers to prioritize security in the zkEVM landscape. In a recent post on X, Buterin congratulated the ZKsync Airbender team for reaching a new milestone and emphasized that the contest for speed in deploying zero-knowledge proofs on Ethereum is now settled.
Shift Toward Security in zkEVM Development
Buterin outlined three key objectives for the formal verification of zkEVMs. First, he stressed the need to ensure that mathematical proofs align precisely with the Ethereum network’s specifications. Second, he called for a strict limit on prover costs relative to the gas used in each block. Third, he underscored the fundamental importance of the underlying proof system’s security.
He warned that while fast proofs are valuable, any system that produces inaccurate results poses a significant risk to the Ethereum roadmap, which increasingly relies on zero-knowledge proofs for block validation. If prover costs spiral out of control for blocks with heavy transaction loads, smaller operators could be edged out, negatively affecting the network’s decentralization.
Buterin identified the next chapter for Ethereum’s zkEVM progress, explaining that closing gaps in formal verification and limiting prover overhead are now essential as these technologies move closer to mainnet and widespread adoption.
He urged developers to resolve these challenges before the technology becomes integral to mainnet security, making the case that strong security standards must guide its future evolution.
Technical Outlook for ETH
Buterin’s comments arrive at a challenging time for Ethereum’s price. ETH is trading close to $2,365, representing a decline of about 15% from its late September high of approximately $2,800. The asset has recently fallen beneath key moving averages at $2,490 and $2,550, and now hovers near the $2,360 level. The next critical support appears at $2,305, positioned just below the recent low of $2,313.
Trading volume on Ethereum remains steady but lacks clear strength, while the relative strength index (RSI) is approaching 38, indicating conditions near the oversold threshold. Market observers have noted that if the orange and black averages—referring to the $2,360 and $2,305 price levels—hold, a technical rebound could emerge. A sustained move back above $2,490 would signal the first steps toward recovery.
Despite this technical weakness, Buterin’s message does not constitute a direct catalyst for short-term price movement. Security improvements in zkEVM technology are expected to unfold gradually and are unlikely to provoke immediate trading activity.
Meme Token Activity and Market Monitoring
While attention remains on Ethereum’s development and price action, the meme token market has demonstrated how rapidly trends can generate substantial gains. In recent activity, a $99 investment in the “Niu Lai” token reportedly grew to around $370,000 within days, highlighting the critical role of timing and token selection in maximizing returns. For those seeking to monitor both price action and emerging opportunities, platforms like Fomo App provide integrated token discovery and trading alongside features such as social feeds, investor rankings, and notifications.
Fomo App’s approach emphasizes the importance of closely tracking investor moves and timely market shifts, essential tools for participants in the fast-moving meme token landscape.
Looking forward, most analysts have suggested that for Ethereum, the prevailing chart levels will play a decisive role in determining near-term direction. A drop beneath $2,305 could jeopardize the recovery from the August lows, while a recovery above resistance would reset the technical landscape.
