XRP has triggered one of technical analysis’s most watched patterns, with the cryptocurrency’s 50-day moving average crossing above the 200-day moving average near the $1.37 mark. This golden cross, typically seen as a bullish indicator, suggests a potential shift in the longer-term trend.
XRP reverses from downtrend after August surge
From May through mid-August, XRP experienced a pronounced decline, dropping from over $1.50 to approximately $1.00. During this period, the 200-day moving average served as persistent resistance, moving steadily downward as selling pressure dominated the market.
August brought a significant change as XRP staged a rapid, volume-driven rally. Within only a few trading sessions, the price surged past all major moving averages, effectively breaking the previous downtrend. The 200-day average, which had formed a price cap, quickly switched to offer technical support.
In September, XRP exited a declining trendline and went on to retest the $1.28 to $1.30 region before climbing to a local peak just below $1.66. This sequence confirmed a notable reversal in market structure, as classic technical definitions regard a trend shift as the replacement of lower lows with higher lows.
Golden cross under pressure as short-term signals weaken
However, more recent price action has introduced renewed caution. Despite the golden cross suggesting longer-term strength, short-term indicators are turning negative. Following the local high, XRP failed to sustain levels above $1.60, instead posting sequentially lower highs at $1.66, $1.63, and $1.58.
A series of daily declines sent the price down to $1.50, with trading volume on recovery attempts unable to match the surge seen in August. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), which cooled from overbought territory to around 58, may continue to drift lower before a potential reset at oversold levels.
Currently, the short-term 50-day moving average is rising near $1.44, offering initial support. The critical level remains at $1.37, where the 50-day and 200-day averages now intersect. A move below this threshold could undermine the golden cross and drive XRP toward the $1.30 range.
Bulls must reclaim resistance to shift momentum
Buyers now face the challenge of quickly recovering the $1.60 price level. Breaking through resistance in the $1.66 to $1.70 zone will be essential for sustaining upside momentum. Until then, the path of least resistance appears to remain to the downside.
The golden cross has drawn traders’ attention to a possible bullish market shift, but confirmation is lacking as short-term signals lag. Further weakness below $1.37 would add pressure, demanding a response from bulls to reverse the negative momentum.
As XRP moves at the intersection of key technical levels, monitoring both support and resistance remains critical for traders weighing the next steps. In a market where a single Fed decision or a sudden altcoin listing can change everything in seconds, jumping between different apps for charts, news, and portfolio tracking is costing investors money. Smart traders are now utilizing privacy-first tools like CryptoAppsy to consolidate everything.
