Zcash has logged significant gains among larger cryptocurrencies over the past year, with ZEC trading near $1,500 after climbing 193% in 2026 and surging more than 2,470% over the past twelve months. These sharp price increases have aligned with a notable acceleration in private activity on the Zcash network.
Shielded transactions surge to highest levels since 2022
Data from Blockworks show that Zcash processed 62,375 shielded transactions in the past week, marking its most active period since 2022. During the same week, the network settled $23.88 billion in transfer volume, ranking among Zcash’s largest historical totals.
Until recently, shielded transaction counts had remained steady, fluctuating between 8,000 and 12,000 weekly from January through July. Activity began to increase notably in August, reaching approximately 48,000 by early September and then hitting the latest weekly high alongside ongoing price gains for ZEC.
Shielded transaction counts soared from early-2026 levels, reaching a new weekly peak as ZEC continued to rally, coinciding with the sharpest increase in private activity on the network since 2022.
Network changes and growing market demand
Developers are preparing the NU7 network upgrade, scheduled for mainnet deployment on November 5 following an October testnet. Planned changes include faster block times of 25 seconds, which received strong community backing. These are expected to further optimize throughput and private transaction capabilities on the network.
Shielded transfers rely on zero-knowledge proofs to obscure details such as sender, receiver, and payment amounts, while transparent ZEC transactions remain openly visible. This distinction makes shielded transaction figures an important metric for monitoring adoption and privacy trends, separated from typical exchange trading.
Trading activity in ZEC has also intensified. Grayscale recently completed a share split of its Zcash ETF amid strong fund flows, and 24-hour spot trading volume neared $1.97 billion. This robust demand in the market has pushed dollar-denominated network transfer volumes upward.
Tracking trading activity and investor sentiment has become especially relevant as rapid moves continue across meme token markets. In these markets, internet trends can quickly create multi-million dollar trading waves. Data from Fomo App reveal a notably profitable trade in “Niu Lai,” where a $99 investment grew to about $370,000, illustrating the speed and volatility present in this sector. Fomo App allows users to discover and trade tokens on one platform, with social feeds, investor rankings, and trade notifications. Monitoring token picks and timing remains key to navigating meme asset volatility.
Historical context and ongoing volatility
Earlier shielded transaction records, particularly in 2022, deserve additional context. That year, a spam attack flooded Zcash’s shielded pools with low-value transactions, inflating figures. Developers responded by revising fee models to discourage similar activity. More recently, increased Zcash mining activity has been reported amid improved token prices and enhanced mining profitability.
Weekly shielded transaction figures have shown considerable volatility. Counts dipped to roughly 28,000 around September 7 before rebounding above 62,000. ZEC’s price also retreated from an intraday peak close to $1,679. Whether this elevated level of private activity will persist in the coming weeks remains uncertain and will be closely watched through October and beyond.
The spike in shielded transaction activity, absent the factors that boosted figures in 2022, highlights the growing importance of privacy-focused networks as overall demand for ZEC remains strong.
