Binance witnessed its largest single-day outflow of Bitcoin since 2023, as more than 13,800 BTC exited the platform on September 25, according to on-chain data. The move follows a period of heightened trading activity for Bitcoin, which has recently hovered near $84,000, causing Binance’s Bitcoin reserves to decline sharply within a few days.

Sharp decline in Bitcoin reserves

CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reported that over a four-day span, Binance’s Bitcoin reserves fell from 705,000 BTC to 685,000 BTC, amounting to a decline of roughly 20,000 BTC. This drop included a record single-day net outflow of over 13,800 BTC on September 25. The analyst indicated that Binance, the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, now holds about 30% of all Bitcoin readily accessible on exchanges.

Previously, Binance experienced another significant outflow of approximately 9,000 BTC in one day in late July, underscoring the scale of this latest withdrawal.

Analyst insights and FOMO dynamics

Analyst Darkfost described the recent activity as indicative of a new wave of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) among late-market participants. Many investors appear to be moving their BTC off exchanges for long-term holding, reducing the supply immediately available for trading. Darkfost also noted that this behavior is typically seen as a positive signal, related to increased holder conviction and reduced selling pressure on exchanges.

He remarked that a weekly average net outflow of around 2,000 BTC has been observed, but the latest movement stands out for its scale.

When outflows become dominant, it indicates that some investors are choosing to hold their BTC themselves. This behavior is often associated with long-term holding, which is a positive sign. Mechanically, the decrease in BTC on exchanges reduces potential selling pressure.

The analyst pointed out that the current rally, which has seen Bitcoin climb nearly 45% since July, differs from other recent rebounds. He suggested that if upward momentum continues, further large outflow events could occur, further influencing exchange reserves and market liquidity.

Mini dictionary: FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a psychological phenomenon where individuals act hastily to avoid missing potential gains, often observed during high-volatility periods in financial markets such as cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin price action and ETF inflows

Bitcoin’s performance has remained relatively steady but volatile over the past day. As of Friday, the asset is trading around $84,670, with intraday swings between approximately $82,900 and $84,900. Data from CoinGecko indicates that Bitcoin is up 1.5% over the last 24 hours.

The substantial outflows from Binance align with continued inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), despite a recent deceleration. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net inflows of $190.65 million on September 24, which marks the lowest daily inflow in the past five days. In contrast, the previous highest single-day inflow reached $998.95 million on September 21, the largest since October 2025.

A consistent fall in Bitcoin reserves on exchanges could reduce the immediate supply available for trading. However, analysts cautioned that coins moved off exchanges are not necessarily locked out of circulation, as they may return to the market at a later stage.

He also expects similar large outflow events could occur again if Bitcoin continues advancing.

Binance’s sharp reduction in Bitcoin reserves comes during a period of both price stability and heightened institutional investor demand, with exchange flows continuing to serve as a closely watched indicator of market sentiment.
