The cryptocurrency market experienced a sharp decline on Tuesday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as reports surfaced of military actions on Iran’s Qeshm Island. The heightened geopolitical risk sent shockwaves through global assets, causing oil prices to surge and prompting a broad round of selling in digital currencies.
Broad market selloff as tensions rise
Total crypto market capitalization fell by 1.7%, reflecting investor concerns that the conflict could extend and disrupt global economic stability. The price of Brent crude oil jumped over 1.6%, reaching above $106.95 per barrel, with optimism for swift diplomatic intervention quickly fading.
As anticipated risk aversion spread across global financial markets, Bitcoin led the decline. BTC dropped 1.9% in the past 24 hours to around $76,950 and registered a 4% loss over the week. Top altcoins also traded lower: Ethereum (ETH) slipped 1.2% to $2,265, while Solana (SOL) fell 2.5% to $92.25.
The swiftly deteriorating sentiment especially impacted traders in over-leveraged positions. Data from CoinGlass indicated that $382.48 million in leveraged orders were liquidated in 24 hours, with $341.81 million of those losses coming from long strategies. Bitcoin traders endured close to $100 million in forced closures.
Technical weakness and upcoming events
CryptoQuant analysts highlighted the underlying fragility in current market conditions. After a temporary rally to $78,700 on Monday, driven by optimism surrounding potential US-Iran dialogue and the resumption of Binance withdrawals, the Bitcoin rebound faded as the Nasdaq finished down 1.1%. The upturn lost momentum just before reaching the $79,000 resistance level.
The recent retracement has brought Bitcoin below the $77,140 cost basis for its 1-3 month holders, a threshold that could trigger further selling into any short-term bounce. CryptoQuant noted that its Apparent Demand metric has shifted into negative territory, now running below its 30-day average.
CryptoQuant reported ongoing Bitcoin spot buying but observed that this interest has not been sufficient to counteract sustained futures selling and forced liquidations, leaving the market exposed to further downside risk.
Analysts at CryptoQuant identified the $76,600 to $76,700 range as immediate support, while a sustained move upward would require Bitcoin to reclaim the $77,100–$77,200 band and then push above $77,400–$77,600. Falling liquidation volumes and persistence by spot buyers would be positive signals for recovery.
Market outlook remains uncertain
The confluence of the US midterm elections and continued strikes on Iran by US forces has complicated the macroeconomic outlook. The risk of further volatility remains pronounced as global investors monitor both political developments and market reactions.
Amid these rapidly shifting conditions, traders seeking to track vital support and resistance levels may benefit from customizable real-time tools. CryptoAppsy’s live price alerts and integrated real-time charts enable users to monitor sharp moves in Bitcoin and other major assets instantly, providing critical support for decision-making during periods of heightened market uncertainty.
For the time being, both bullish and bearish traders are closely watching international news and economic signals, with much attention focused on upcoming statements from policymakers and further potential developments in the Middle East.
With an elevated level of uncertainty and market fragility, Bitcoin’s ability to hold major support levels will be tested in the sessions ahead, especially as macro headlines and liquidation pressures remain intense.
