Bitcoin hovered near $77,000 on Wednesday, signaling a crucial test for its current uptrend as sellers pushed the cryptocurrency back into a key support zone. The latest move placed the spotlight on the $76,000-$77,000 area, which has become the most closely watched level for short-term traders eyeing the outcome of the latest market pullback.

Key technical zone could shape short-term trend

Market data early Wednesday showed Bitcoin changing hands between $77,300 and $77,400, emphasizing how tightly price has been tethered to ongoing support tests. The three-hour chart highlighted the immediate decision area between $76,000 and $77,000, with Bitcoin last recorded at $76,789.

This support has become even more significant as price action compressed near the lower boundary of a descending channel, following repeated failed attempts to clear the upper trendline resistance. If Bitcoin manages to defend this level, analysts expect a potential rally back towards $78,000, and possibly the resistance range around $79,000-$80,000.

Wealthmanager, a crypto market analyst, argued that, “a successful hold here could produce a sharp bounce, while failing this zone would leave Bitcoin exposed to a more damaging move lower.”

Conversely, a decisive breakdown below the lower channel—rather than just a brief intraday dip—would reduce nearby technical support, raising the risk of further declines as sellers gain momentum.

Live market data pointed to a tight price range as the market awaited a verdict on whether this key support would hold or give way.

50-week moving average remains key hurdle

While traders monitor the short-term structure, the broader outlook remains cautious due to resistance from Bitcoin’s 50-week weighted moving average (WMA). After rebounding off approximately $62,000, Bitcoin approached $80,000 but is still trading below the declining 50-week average, which sits just above the current market range in the low $80,000s.

MrTranquility, another analyst, suggested that recent gains should be seen within the context of a bear-market recovery. He projected that Bitcoin could print a lower low during the fourth quarter, emphasizing that a sustainable turnaround would require price to reclaim and then hold above the 50-week average.

The chart implies that, although defending $76,000-$77,000 might prompt a new short-term rebound, bulls would need to overcome the 50-week average before confirming a large-scale trend change and invalidating the current downtrend structure.

The weekly chart details further support from the 200-week WMA, currently climbing through the low $60,000s, where Bitcoin recently found a floor. That longer-term support becomes relevant only if the short-term structure deteriorates sharply.

Mini dictionary: Weighted Moving Average (WMA), a technical indicator that assigns more weight to recent prices than older ones, aiding in identifying trend direction and smoother price action compared to the simple moving average.

Macroeconomic headwinds intensify test

Bitcoin’s technical crossroads coincided with challenging global market conditions. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields climbed to 4.81% on Wednesday as renewed U.S.-Iran tensions lifted oil prices and boosted the dollar, putting further pressure on risk assets including cryptocurrencies.

Brent crude traded above $95 a barrel, while global equity markets weakened. Bitcoin had already faced resistance around $78,000 a day earlier, tracking traders’ growing expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike.

Asset/IndicatorRecent Level
Bitcoin price$77,300–$77,400
Key BTC support$76,000–$77,000
BTC 50-week WMAlow $80,000s

Brent crude oilAbove $95

Recent trading placed Bitcoin within the $77,200 to $79,200 band, with repeated failures to break through resistance near $82,000. The outcome of the present support test is expected to determine whether Bitcoin can revisit higher levels or faces a deeper correction in response to growing macroeconomic headwinds.
