Ilya Lichtenstein, a resident of New York, confessed to money laundering conspiracy charges during a court hearing at the US District Court in Washington. He also admitted to being the hacker behind the multimillion-dollar exploitation at the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange in 2016. The identity of the hacker had remained a mystery until now.
Moments ago, CNBC reported that Lichtenstein confessed to being the hacker. According to US authorities, the 35-year-old Lichtenstein and his wife, Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan, planned to launder 119,754 Bitcoins worth approximately $71 million at the time of the exchange hack in 2016.
