The Cardano Foundation has announced the release of the highly anticipated Cardano Rosetta Java v2.1.0 update, a move set to enhance decentralized governance capabilities within the Cardano blockchain network. With this new version, governance features related to the Conway era can now be accessed directly via API endpoints, marking a significant milestone for the developer community.

Governance Innovation and API Overhaul in the Conway Era

Based in Switzerland, the Cardano Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and supporting the Cardano network and ecosystem. The newly released Rosetta Java v2.1.0 brings decentralized governance, on-chain voting, and direct DRep (Delegate Representative) participation to the forefront, making these functionalities more accessible and transparent across the blockchain.

The update now allows both stake pool operator (SPO) votes and DRep delegation records to be visible at build and data endpoints, streamlining access for developers and ecosystem stakeholders. Notably, the CIP-129 standard has been incorporated, facilitating automatic identification of DRep identities and optimizing the sequencing of operations for efficiency.

Technical Enhancements and Improved Version Compatibility

According to accompanying technical documentation, the update integrates VOTE_DREP_DELEGATION and POOL_GOVERNANCE_VOTE operations within the /block, /block/transaction, and /search/transactions endpoints for Conway-era events. This comprehensive enrichment of the API stands to significantly ease workflow management for teams building governance applications.

One of the notable architectural refinements concerns error code management; irreversible error scenarios now return a 400 Bad Request code instead of the previous 500 Internal Server Error. This adjustment may prompt developers with custom error-handling processes to update their code, reflecting an alignment with more intuitive error classifications.

Seamless Version Migration and Detailed Configuration Guidance

For users upgrading from v2.0.0, the transition to v2.1.0 is fully compatible with no need for re-synchronization. However, those migrating from v1.x.x will be required to conduct a complete genesis synchronization on the yaci-indexer. The release notes comprehensively outline the necessary steps for data clean-up and configuration to ensure smooth upgrades.

The update also triggers version advances on related components: nodes move from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 and the yaci package upgrades from 0.10.5 to 0.10.6. Furthermore, a new management interface for the yaci-indexer is being piloted, providing users with greater control over system operations during the trial phase.

The Cardano Foundation clarified that this release is optional, allowing teams to plan their adoption of v2.1.0 according to their own development schedules.

Conway Era’s Role in Cardano’s Roadmap

The Conway era—also known within Cardano’s roadmap as the Voltaire phase—positions itself as a pivotal stage empowering ADA holders with an active voice in protocol decisions, supporting on-chain voting, and advancing stakeholder participation in stake pool governance. The Rosetta API remains a cornerstone for exchanges and developers, and this upgrade fully incorporates all governance operations into its interface.

Notable contributors to the update include developers such as matiwinnetou, linconvidal, and Sotatek-DucPhung. Key advancements include new governance data endpoints and the enhancement of testing infrastructure, both of which are instrumental in supporting Cardano’s decentralized governance initiatives.

With these improvements, Cardano’s core infrastructure takes a significant step forward, offering broader opportunities for stakeholders aiming to develop governance-driven applications and strengthening the blockchain’s foundation for future innovation.
