Discord confirmed it will soon make conversations from its largest public servers, known as Discoverable Servers, visible on search engines such as Google. This move is set to impact thousands of online communities, including hundreds involved in cryptocurrency discussions.
Public servers to become searchable
The company stated that, starting November 16, every Discoverable Server—defined as any public Discord server with at least 1,000 members listed in Discord’s public directory—will receive its own dedicated web page. These web pages may feature compiled summaries of discussions sourced from public channels within each server.
By mid-December, messages posted in eligible public channels of these servers will begin appearing in web search results. According to Discord, there are currently more than 63,000 Discoverable Servers on the platform, spanning interests such as cryptocurrency, trading, and finance.
All content posted before this rollout will remain private, and the display of usernames and avatars in published messages will be excluded. The company emphasized the intention to make previously inaccessible discussions available to broader audiences outside Discord.
This has led to valuable information being locked in Discord conversations, inaccessible to the wider internet. We want to fix this.
Some members of the Discord community expressed support for increasing the visibility of server discussions, stating that information has become harder to find since online forums moved into app-based channels. Others, however, voiced privacy concerns due to the increased public accessibility of their conversations.
Implications for cryptocurrency communities
Many cryptocurrency projects and user communities rely on Discord servers to host technical discussions, offer user support, and issue announcements. Public directories currently list nearly 800 servers under the ‘cryptocurrency’ tag, about 1,400 under ‘trading,’ and more than 700 related to ‘finance,’ according to recent findings.
The search policy change is expected to increase the visibility of cryptocurrency discussions, potentially providing easier access to support and educational material for users who turn to search engines for information.

| Cryptocurrency | 800 |

| Finance | 700 |
Privacy controls and opting out
Users who prefer not to have their Discord messages or discussion summaries appear on public web pages can opt out by navigating to their User Settings, selecting Data & Privacy, and disabling the option titled “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.” This single setting covers all Discoverable Servers the user participates in.
Opting out before the mid-December launch will prevent eligible messages from becoming searchable. The feature will be off by default for users residing in Australia, the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, and South Korea. Teen accounts will also be excluded automatically.
It remains possible to opt out after the public launch; however, this will not retroactively affect messages posted prior to changing the setting. Users can remove messages that have already become public by deleting them directly from Discord, though cached versions may persist in search engines for some time.
Server administrators hold additional controls, including the ability to block specific channels or the entire server from being indexed on the web. They may also disable the creation of discussion summaries, which are scheduled to appear on web pages beginning in November, prior to the rollout of message searchability in December.
One user described the update as “very much necessary” due to the growing difficulty of searching Discord-based discussions compared to legacy internet forums.
