Hedera, the decentralized network known for its enterprise-focused blockchain platform, marked Lando Norris’s victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a new promotional post alongside McLaren Racing. The message, emphasizing “trust, innovation, precision,” signaled not just a celebration of the race, but the durability of the partnership between McLaren and Hedera’s native token, HBAR.

Ongoing partnership beyond sponsorship

Unlike many deals that focus on short-term exposure, Hedera’s relationship with McLaren began in January 2026 as a multi-year agreement. Through this partnership, Hedera became an official collaborator for both the McLaren Formula 1 and Arrow McLaren IndyCar teams. The HBAR logo appears on cars and race suits throughout events.

For fans, the collaboration included more than just branding. McLaren and Hedera have distributed digital collectibles during prominent Grand Prix weekends. These items, akin to limited-edition digital stickers or badges, are released during the races and allow fans to access them without needing deep cryptocurrency expertise. Initial drops accompanied events such as the Australian, Chinese, and Japanese Grands Prix.

This approach aimed to create an accessible entry point for mainstream audiences who may not be directly involved in crypto. The collectibles are distributed for free, sidestepping many of the technical and financial barriers often associated with digital assets and NFTs.

McLaren joins Hedera Governing Council

The alliance took a significant leap in March when McLaren secured a seat on the Hedera Governing Council. This council is a group of prominent global organizations including Google, IBM, and FedEx. Members exercise equal voting rights and actively participate in the governance and technical direction of the Hedera network.

With this move, McLaren transitioned from a standard commercial partner to an active stakeholder in Hedera’s future. The team now helps oversee core decisions and provides strategic input alongside other large enterprises.

Mini dictionary: Hedera Governing Council — The main governing body of the Hedera network made up of major international companies. Each council member steers policies, technical upgrades, and ensures decentralization by sharing decision-making responsibilities equally.

Throughout the season, McLaren’s position on the council and steady release of digital collectibles have provided rare continuity in a sector often characterized by short-lived brand relationships.

HBAR performance and mainstream visibility

The HBAR token, which drives transactions and applications on the Hedera network, recently traded at approximately $0.068 to $0.069. TradingView data put its market capitalization around $3 billion, representing a modest decline for the day. This value is considerably below its all-time high of nearly $0.57 recorded in 2021.

Despite the price drop, the alliance with McLaren has helped keep HBAR at the forefront of mainstream consciousness compared to many crypto projects. The ongoing publicity from high-profile races and the unique collectibles have provided steady visibility.

The Hungarian Grand Prix victory offered another timely opportunity for Hedera and McLaren to highlight their ongoing collaboration and reinforce their commitment to blockchain innovation in sports.

While many collaborations in the cryptocurrency space fade shortly after launch, Hedera and McLaren have maintained momentum for more than six months. Their continuing efforts have defied expectations in a market known for quick shifts and fleeting attention.
