Robinhood Chain, the newly launched Ethereum layer-2 network from Robinhood, has quickly reached nearly $800 million in total value locked just over a month after going online. The network has processed more than 200 million transactions during this period, marking a significant start for Robinhood’s efforts to bridge traditional finance with blockchain technology.
Targeting new crypto users and mainstream adoption
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and Johann Kerbrat, head of crypto at Robinhood, have emphasized that the project’s main objective is to appeal to people who have never engaged with digital assets, not just existing cryptocurrency enthusiasts. The company aims to position Robinhood Chain as a financial hub that serves both professional investors and those drawn in by memes and trending tokens.
Explaining the company’s vision, Kerbrat said the network strikes a balance between offering serious financial products—such as tokenized stocks and derivatives—and fostering the meme-driven excitement often seen in the crypto space.
Robinhood’s approach is built around “making sure the chain works for what people care about,” with plans to support products like tokenized equities, stablecoin lending, futures contracts, and meme coins that attract retail users and liquidity.
Kerbrat highlighted the importance of broadening access, stating that Robinhood seeks to demonstrate the advantages of on-chain technology to a wider audience. He suggested that success would be measured by onboarding tens of millions of users who have not previously interacted with blockchain products.
Real-world assets and product focus
The Robinhood Chain supports more than 200 tokenized stocks, allowing users to trade real-world assets around the clock, even outside of traditional market hours. Kerbrat noted that the ability to respond to market-moving events during evenings and weekends provides significant flexibility to retail investors, who previously could not hedge positions when conventional exchanges were closed.
The platform was intentionally built as a layer-2 solution atop Ethereum, enabling Robinhood to leverage the network’s established security and decentralization while focusing its resources on new product development. According to Kerbrat, early adoption indicators such as deposits, transaction counts, and developer activity remain central metrics for evaluating the chain’s progress.
In addition to tokenized stocks and lending, Robinhood Chain supports trading in perpetual futures, creating a comprehensive suite of financial services on-chain. The company is pursuing an inclusive model, opening the network for both internal and external developers to bring diverse products to users.
Market accessibility and innovation
Kerbrat pointed out that meme coins play an important role on Robinhood Chain, acting as sources of liquidity and driving engagement among decentralized finance (DeFi) users. The network provides support for these tokens, recognizing their appeal to a segment of the market that is traditionally more difficult to attract.
Expanding the range of accessible financial products is a key part of Robinhood’s strategy. Kerbrat stated that the company intends for Robinhood Chain to serve as an entry point for mainstream customers, not just existing crypto traders, and sees expansion into tokenized equities and derivatives as a crucial driver of future growth.
Kerbrat emphasized that “the world doesn’t stop on weekends” and pointed out the value in letting retail investors trade and protect their positions even after traditional markets close.
Amidst the growing trend of bringing traditional financial assets onto the blockchain, innovative solutions are shaping market accessibility. Platforms like 1stepSwap demonstrate this shift by transferring real-world assets directly onto the blockchain, giving users the ability to buy shares of major U.S. companies or commodities such as gold and silver straight from their wallets without unnecessary complexity or intermediaries. The platform automatically locates the best prices at any moment, enabling users to diversify portfolios with major assets quickly and efficiently across both traditional and crypto markets.
Robinhood officials reiterated their goal to focus on user needs, fostering an ecosystem where both financial traditionalists and the crypto-native community can participate fully. By targeting those new to crypto rather than competing for existing blockchain users, Robinhood aims to broaden the reach of decentralized finance and demonstrate the everyday utility of blockchain-powered products.
