A significant technical advancement is approaching for the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as momentum builds behind the introduction of the long-anticipated Batch (XLS-56) amendment. On Monday, analytics service XRPScan reported that validator support for the update had reached 82.86%, surpassing a critical threshold that triggers the next phase of the upgrade process.
Fourteen-day countdown triggered for major upgrade
According to XRPL’s governance framework, surpassing the required validator approval initiates a mandatory 14-day waiting period. If this heightened consensus remains stable throughout this timeframe, the software upgrade will be enacted automatically on September 29, 2026, at 14:06 UTC.
The forthcoming upgrade represents the community’s second attempt to introduce batch transaction capabilities to the ledger. Developers previously suspended an initial deployment of Batch in February 2024 after audit firm Cantina AI detected a vulnerability in the feature’s signature-validation component, which posed potential risks to user funds if exploited.
RippleX, the development division supporting the XRP Ledger, responded by completely redesigning the feature’s architecture in collaboration with security testing specialists from Halborn and Common Prefix. As part of this process, the improved code was subjected to a public stress test during the Sherlock Attackathon event, after which it was shipped in the global xrpld v3.3.0 release. Following these efforts, network validators approved the reworked upgrade for release.

Batch transactions empower the network with complex, multi-party operations that were previously only possible using layered and costly smart contracts, while also reducing risks of stuck transactions or incomplete payments.
With the introduction of XLS-56, the XRP Ledger will support streamlined institutional settlements, such as the simultaneous transfer and payment of tokenized assets according to the “delivery versus payment” (DvP) model. The feature also enables direct digital asset swaps, including NFT-for-NFT exchanges, without requiring conversion to XRP or other tokens as an intermediary step.
Application developers will further benefit by being able to embed platform fees directly into user transactions, ensuring operational simplicity without complex workflows.
Traders operating on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) built atop XRPL will also gain the ability to submit bundled trading orders. If a single order executes successfully, others in the batch will be cancelled, helping traders better manage risk and avoid unintended losses.
