In Brief

  • 🚨 Cardano dropped 90% from its all time high as altcoins hit record lows.

  • 📉 Nearly 40% of all alts now trade near bottom levels, with $ADA under pressure.

Geopolitical tensions have weighed heavily on the altcoin market, leading to significant declines across numerous tokens. The market downturn has been more severe for many altcoins than the major-cap declines triggered by the FTX collapse in 2022.

Nearly 40% of altcoins reach all time lows

Coin Bureau reported that approximately 38.8% of all altcoins are now trading near their all time lows, which means about four in ten alternative cryptocurrencies have reached what some analysts consider “bottomed” conditions.

Data compiled by Whitelist Media highlighted Cardano (ADA) as one of the hardest hit assets. ADA has declined by as much as 90% from its historical peak, placing it at the bottom tier of major altcoin performance in the current cycle.

In comparison, leading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have demonstrated more resilience. Bitcoin, for instance, remained relatively stable despite declining from its $129,000 all-time high last summer. Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, also dipped below its $1,500 support range temporarily during this market correction, but avoided a steeper collapse.

Cardano trades at key support as volumes climb

Cardano’s struggle to maintain momentum comes as the wider altcoin market faces continued choppy trading conditions, with no clear signal of an upcoming “alt season” that some technical analysts have been watching for.

Recent attempts by ADA to rebound toward the $0.20 level attracted attention, but price action remains subdued. Analysts note that Cardano’s long term prospects will depend on whether institutional investors retain confidence in the project’s technology and roadmap.

Technical observers point to the importance of the $0.16 support level. Should Cardano’s reversal toward $0.20 gain traction, bullish sentiment may build, supported by long-term investor conviction. Last week, research firm Chainspect recognized Cardano with a strong Nakamoto Coefficient, signaling robust decentralization for the network.

Chainspect’s report indicates Cardano’s Nakamoto Coefficient stands at 0.16, suggesting higher levels of decentralization and making Cardano one of the safest large-cap networks against potential centralization threats.

Mini dictionary: Nakamoto Coefficient, a metric that measures the minimum number of entities required to compromise a blockchain’s consensus and thus control the network. Higher values indicate greater decentralization.

ADA spot market trading volumes have risen, reaching $210.75 million. Activity in derivative markets has outpaced the spot market, with futures volumes jumping 41% in a day to $367.37 million, based on CoinGlass data.

Sentiment hinges on technical and institutional developments

The critical level of $0.20 will serve as a key indicator of near-term sentiment for Cardano, potentially paving the way for a reversal of its steep decline from all-time highs if sustained.

Chainspect’s recent evaluation, along with the uptick in trading activity, underscores that market participants continue to monitor both Cardano’s technical position and qualitative improvements as deciding factors for its outlook.

The combination of decentralized network security metrics and significant market volume could influence whether Cardano registers a durable recovery or maintains its current low.

Elsewhere, top trending moves in the crypto market include substantial liquidations in memecoins like TUT and shifting liquidity patterns in XRP as traders track the next technical levels.
