The 2026 Global Family Office Report by JPMorgan sheds light on the investment trends and priorities of affluent families worldwide. Compiling data from 333 family offices with an average asset value of $1.6 billion across 30 countries, the report highlights limited interest in digital assets while noting a significant focus on artificial intelligence (AI) as the main investment theme for many family offices.

AI and Investment Priorities

According to the study, 65% of family offices identify AI as a priority in their current or future investment strategies. Health technologies rank second with 50%, followed by infrastructure investments at 41%. Conversely, the prioritization of digital assets and similar themes drops to a mere 17%.

Despite the high interest in AI, over half of these family offices do not engage in growth or venture capital investments. Moreover, 79% have yet to allocate funds to infrastructure investments.

Kristin Kallergis Rowland, Global Head of Alternative Investments at J.P. Morgan, articulated this trend succinctly by stating that alternative investments have evolved from being tactical supplements to becoming strategic pillars within portfolios.

Limited Growth in Digital Asset Interest

The report reveals that digital assets comprise an average of just 0.4% of family offices’ portfolios, with Bitcoin representing only 0.2%. Alarmingly, 89% of offices hold no digital assets, while 72% lack gold investments in their portfolios.

Contrasting this, some offices show increasing interest in digital assets. According to NOIA Capital’s Investment Director, Muhammed Yeşilhark, family offices have begun investing more systematically and regularly in digital assets over the past year. This marks a transition from being ‘digital experimenters’ to institutional investors allocating steadily, albeit at low levels.

A BNY Mellon study from October indicates that 74% of ultra-high-net-worth family offices are investing in or exploring digital assets. This growth is attributed to regulatory developments and enhanced custody solutions.

Global and Regional Trends

Despite overall hesitancy, digital asset investments are increasing in certain family offices across Asia, Europe, and North America. A $10 million investment by Hong Kong-based VMS Group in Re7 Capital and a $250 million private fund initiative by Maelstrom, linked to BitMEX’s co-founder Arthur Hayes, underscore this trend. Additionally, significant growth signals are observed in digital asset investments by family offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Institutional investors display a more active approach towards digital assets compared to family offices. A 2025 survey by Coinbase and Glassnode shows 70% of institutional investors consider Bitcoin undervalued, with 62% maintaining or increasing their positions.

In the United States, 32% of financial advisors now include digital assets in client portfolios, up from 22% last year. Zann Kwan, Investment Director of Singapore-based Revo Digital Family Office, noted the growing interest among new generation investors in digital assets, highlighting their shift from Bitcoin ETFs to understanding direct token holdings.
