Efforts continue in the realm of crypto-based games, bringing forth a stream of new announcements. With the excitement surrounding the metaverse, work in this area has accelerated. New infrastructures have been developed to support the integration of games and crypto, particularly since they have shone brightly alongside NFTs. We have even seen experiments focused solely on blockchain-based crypto games akin to Steam.
Ubisoft’s Crypto Game
In 2021, the enthusiasm for NFTs and the metaverse led to a surge in discussions about Web3 games. Significant trials emerged, and now, the French gaming giant Ubisoft, known for the Assassin’s Creed series, is set to launch its first game powered by blockchain technology.
The new game, titled “Champions Tactics,” will be available for PC on October 23. Ubisoft noted, “At the heart of ‘Champions Tactics’ are the NFTs used in the game. A collection of 75,000 Champions forms the foundation of the game.”
Blockchain-Based Games
Since 2019, Ubisoft has been working to integrate blockchain technology into its games, taking a first step with a Dungeon & Dragons-style game. Following the success of simple Telegram-based games like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin, expectations are high for the NFTs in this new offering.
Ubisoft’s RPG game garnered significant interest during its NFT minting process in July, generating over $8 million in volume according to OpenSea data. If the game attracts attention and players wish to engage, we might witness a further increase in the value of these NFTs.
The upcoming game utilizes the HOME Verse network, and Ubisoft Lab Vice President Nicolas Pouard stated, “With Champions Tactics, we aim for web3 technology to seamlessly remain in the background, allowing players to immerse themselves fully in the game’s fun and strategy.”
For years, the sale of in-game characters and items in MMO games has generated millions of dollars. With blockchain in this new internet era, these transactions could become even more enjoyable and profitable.
